Guest233 |

brain-xy |
Guest233 .. auto template parser .. a div as a subpart and there is your template :P |
| 01:47 |
Guest233 |
ok thanks, but now i cannot get into my backend, i was logged in, changed my username and password, my session expired and i cannot get back in. |
| 01:53 |
Guest233 |

| 01:56 |
Guest233 |
i just tried clearing my computers temp internet files and cookies but it still won't work |
| 02:00 |
Ries |
Guest233: to answer your last question, if anybody didn't... typo3 doesn't come with templates |
| 02:03 |
brain-xy |
Guest233 .. you don't recognize the data you given yourself? :) |
| 02:03 |
Guest233 |

Guest233 |
no cpanel |
| 02:09 |
brain-xy |
what does appear if you type domain.tld/typo3/install ? |
| 02:10 |
Guest233 |

Guest233 |
ok what is going on, it was working, i got a template partially setup then it asked me to relogin and now i can't get in again. |
| 02:38 |
Guest233 |
well i found the secret to getting back into the backend, delete the temp files left in typo3conf |
| 02:43 |
Rie1 |
Guest233: that shouldn't happen, normally |

I want to crop each link after 16 chars with ... |

andreasbalzer |
but it just doesn't work.. |

pulponair |
andreasbalzer: php? |

andreasbalzer: stdWrap.crop=20|... |
| 09:39 |
andreasbalzer |
yeah but where to add? |
| 09:39 |
pulponair |
andreasbalzer: depends on the rest of your script |
| 09:39 |
andreasbalzer |
i tried 1.NO { .... |
| 09:39 |
pulponair |
andreasbalzer: could you provide a pastebin? |

andreasbalzer |
2.NO { .... |
| 09:40 |
andreasbalzer |
and renderObj.10 { .... |
| 09:40 |
pulponair |
andreasbalzer: so you wanna crop a menu item? |

andreasbalzer |
it did not work.. |

andreasbalzer |
yes |

pulponair |
andreasbalzer: pastebin the whole script please |

pastebin is malfunctioning |

| 09:43 |
pulponair |
andreasbalzer: ok which one should be cropped? |
| 09:43 |
andreasbalzer |
every item should be cropped with 16 | ... |
| 09:44 |
pulponair |
1.NO.stdWrap.crop=16|... and so on |
| 09:44 |
andreasbalzer |
right |
| 09:44 |
andreasbalzer |
did not work for me |
| 09:44 |
pulponair |
andreasbalzer: try -16 |
| 09:44 |
andreasbalzer |
i used ".....crop = 16 | ..." |
| 09:44 |
pulponair |
or even a lower value |
| 09:44 |
frold |
Is there a portal system for typo3? |
| 09:44 |
tobi |
if you want to cropt the header you need to do it there not in the hmenu... the hmenu just fetches the pid's! |
| 09:45 |
andreasbalzer |
but where to do it? |
| 09:45 |
tobi |
renderObj.10.crop |
| 09:45 |
pulponair |
andreasbalzer: tobi is right ...i misstake the ..field=uid |
| 09:46 |
reber |
hi Jigal and all |
| 09:48 |
koomi |
frold: what is a portal system? :) one that shows a lot of news and articles? |
| 09:48 |
pulponair |
andreasbalzer: your script is supposed to show most recent changes right? |
| 09:49 |
andreasbalzer |
yes |
| 09:49 |
andreasbalzer |
and I have it from (http://www.typo3wizard.com/de/snippets/cool-stuff-typoscript/erstellen-top-10-der-zuletzt-geaenderten-inhalte.html) |
| 09:50 |
pulponair |
andreasbalzer: looks funny ...assembling the pidInList where clause by using a hmenu ;) |
| 09:50 |
frold |
koomi, eg... |
| 09:50 |
tobi |
thats the best way i found pulp |
| 09:50 |
pulponair |
tobi: oh dont get me wrong i didnt want to offend you or something .. |
| 09:51 |
frold |
I have a forum for medical student and young doctors in Denmark but would like to have a more dynamic portal....how to explain.....*think* |
| 09:51 |
koomi |
frold: take a look at the tt_news extension |
| 09:51 |
tobi |
no, i know that it is quite strange, but it is better than the register thing i used before ... if you have a better idea i am happy to implement it! :) |
| 09:52 |
koomi |
frold: if you've got a lot of short articles, tt_news is a good choice. use categories to sort them away, put some on the frontpage etc |
| 09:52 |
andreasbalzer |
pulp & toni: any idea? |
| 09:53 |
andreasbalzer |
and is it possible to change it that it uses page headlines, not element headlines? |
| 09:53 |
pulponair |
tobi: i wonder if you actually need pidInList at all |
| 09:54 |
andreasbalzer |
guys I don't wanted a philosophic discussion about whether pidinlist is needed or not ;) I wanted a solution ;) |
| 09:54 |
tobi |
pulponair yes you need it, default is this and you cant have it empty or * |
| 09:54 |
pulponair |
tobi: ah ok ... |
| 09:54 |
pulponair |
tobi: didnt know that |
| 09:55 |
frold |
do you have a link to a site using tt_news koomi |
| 09:55 |
andreasbalzer |
pulp: so where to place that crop thing that it works? |
| 09:56 |
koomi |
frold: fh-mainz.de uses tt_news for everything - afaik |
| 09:58 |
pulponair |
tobi: did you try to unset pidInList < ? |
| 09:58 |
pulponair |
tobi: according to the api that should work |
| 09:59 |
pulponair |
tobi: nevermind ...i was wrong |
| 09:59 |
tobi |
andreasbalzer: http://phpfi.com/224316 |
| 09:59 |
tobi |
yes i tried that, no possibility to unset pidInList or set it to * |
| 10:00 |
pulponair |
tobi: yes due to : |
| 10:00 |
pulponair |
06569 if (!strcmp($conf['pidInList'],'')) { |
| 10:00 |
pulponair |
06570 $conf['pidInList'] = 'this'; |
| 10:00 |
pulponair |
06571 } |
| 10:01 |
tobi |
yes i found that too pulponair |
| 10:01 |
pulponair |
tobi: did you noticed how many querys are fired to determine the pidlist? that is insane |
| 10:02 |
tobi |
andreasbalzer had a little mistake: http://phpfi.com/224319 |
| 10:03 |
tobi |
yes thats instane pulponair i know, but it is cached .. faster solution would be to build a php script for it |
| 10:04 |
pulponair |
tobi: yes right .. |
| 10:05 |
andreasbalzer |
tobi: thanks :) |
| 10:06 |
andreasbalzer |
tobi: so do i need renderObj.10 then? |
| 10:06 |
tobi |
yes |
| 10:06 |
andreasbalzer |
aha |
| 10:06 |
tobi |
if you want to show only the page title no .. |
| 10:06 |
andreasbalzer |
ah ok ;) |
| 10:07 |
andreasbalzer |
but I need the stuff above renderObj, right? |
| 10:07 |
tobi |
yes |
| 10:07 |
andreasbalzer |
so let's try :) |
| 10:08 |
andreasbalzer |
hm.. |
| 10:08 |
andreasbalzer |
well ok. but now there are no links and another problem: some things are listed twice |
| 10:08 |
tobi |
if you want to have the link remove the donotlink it |
| 10:09 |
tobi |
things are twice becaue it looks at changed contents, not changed pages .... |
| 10:09 |
andreasbalzer |
is it possible to change that? |
| 10:09 |
tobi |
if you want only changed pages use the menu special=updated |
| 10:10 |
andreasbalzer |
then I'm going to use what I had... |
| 10:43 |

hi again, whoever are still here ;-) |
| 12:35 |
Ries |
Jigal: I am!!! |
| 12:36 |
Jigal |
hi Ries! |
| 12:40 |
Ries |
actually, I did notice all missing features in the last couple of years.... I kep head banging my head to the MySQL wall since i was so much used to PostgreSQL which is much more mature |
| 12:40 |
romain_smile |
hi everyone |
| 12:42 |
Jigal |
Ries: I wouldn't know; I've only worked with MySQL 3.2x - 5.0.x, but still the simple things like INSERT IGNORE, multi-table deletes, etc. make work so much easier... |
| 12:42 |
Jigal |
hi romain_smile |
| 12:48 |
Jigal |
wb vohfi ;-P |
| 12:50 |
Jigal |
"how rude!" LOL |
| 12:56 |
romain_smile |
ChanServ: hi sorry, wab busy |
| 12:57 |
romain_smile |
do someone know how to change default language in typo3 |
| 12:58 |
romain_smile |
i mean swap languages in order to translate contents form language 2 for instance |
| 12:58 |
romain_smile |
??? |
| 12:59 |
Jigal |
romain_smile: default language is what you say is default :-) You can only define extra languages and give them a name. So if you enter Spanish content and later translate that to Polish, then Spanish is the default language. It's not a question of selecting a default language from all available languages (database structure doesn't allow this). |
| 13:00 |
romain_smile |
Ammler: You mean is French is default language, i cannot go back and set English as default ? |
| 13:00 |
Jigal |
romain_smile: if you study the database structures hard enough you may be able to write a script that swaps default content with one of the available translations... |
| 13:00 |
romain_smile |
ok |
| 13:00 |
romain_smile |
i have to parse every content and page and change their sys_language_id |
| 13:02 |
Ammler |
romain_smile: Did you highlight the right person? |
| 13:02 |
Jigal |
translated content is stored as seperate records with a link to the original conent, but also the history contains the data before and after changes, etc. It is far more complicated than you think at first... |
| 13:03 |
romain_smile |
ChanServ: i guess |
| 13:03 |
romain_smile |
sorry i am new on this IRC (for highlights) |
| 13:04 |
romain_smile |
if i swap every language_id in all database, do you think this swap my languages ? |
| 13:08 |
Jigal |
No it won't. You would have to swap content also and content in serialized arrays and in history records and in records of all kinds of extensions. But language is just a number, so you could easily set a language id in TypoScript as default and use language_id = 0 as just another language and not the default. |
| 13:09 |
Jigal |
romain_smile: a lot is explained in http://typo3.org/documentation/document-library/core-documentation/doc_l10nguide/current/ |
| 13:10 |
Jigal |
Bye! |
| 13:14 |
romain_smile |
thank you for your help ! |

Phlogiston_ |
is there a 2column extension that supports inserting plugins in every column??? |
| 14:00 |
Ries |
Nothing is foolproof to a sufficiently talented fool |
| 14:01 |
Ries |
Phlogiston_: I think standard template thing support 3 or 4 columns, TV supports as many as you want |
| 14:47 |
j0hndeere |
Good morning, earth humans. |
| 14:55 |
Ries |
Hey j0hndeere |
| 14:56 |
neonide |
good mornin everyone |
| 14:56 |
neonide |
another day of teaching myself typo3 |
| 14:57 |
Ries |
neonide: glad to hear! |
| 14:57 |
j0hndeere |
It is a worthy field of study. |
| 14:57 |
neonide |
:) many of these days ahead |
| 14:58 |
Ries |
neonide: depends when you started you will fell really confy in about 12 months |
| 14:58 |
neonide |
haha, i started from scratch with html/php/mysql/typo3 about 3 months ago |
| 14:59 |
Ries |
neonide: then you should beable to get a website up and running I guess |
| 14:59 |
j0hndeere |
hmm... typo3 doesn't seem to like me trying to log myself in simultaneously in 2 browser windows :P |
| 14:59 |
neonide |
oh yeah |
| 15:00 |
j0hndeere |
It would take like a week of studying HTML, CSS and rudimentary PHP to be able to design a site better than 50% of the sites out there |
| 15:00 |
neonide |
oh yeah, i'm realizing that |
| 15:01 |
j0hndeere |
of course, this is because most sites become a mess when people try to cram too much content/too many features into it |
| 15:01 |
neonide |
it's helping me im surrounded by graphic designers and programmers of 10 years helping me learn |
| 15:01 |
j0hndeere |
they usually start out pretty good |
| 15:45 |
Phlogiston_ |
is there a 2column extension that supports inserting plugins in every column??? |

Did somebody install t3 to dreamhost? |
| 17:03 |
Ries |
Not me... |
| 17:04 |
enumerator |
does anybody know about conflict t3 with mod_security? |
| 17:06 |
enumerator |
i talked to support and they told: My best guess is that that something in typo3 is butting heads with mod_security. |
| 17:06 |
enumerator |
i use old version 3.8.1 |
| 17:07 |
enumerator |
i disabled mod_security and it works now! but i don't want to disable mod_security |
| 17:09 |
Ries |
enumerator: I did faugly hear it should work with mod_security, however I am not sure wat that apache module really does |
| 17:10 |
enumerator |
me too |

enumerator |
:-( |
| 17:10 |
Ries |
typo3 by itself is already fairly secure.. |
| 17:11 |
Ries |
a quick search in google shows me that there are issues |
| 17:11 |
enumerator |
i know.. but i'm paranoid :-)) |
| 17:11 |
enumerator |
what issues? |
| 17:16 |
Ries |
enumerator: things don't work :D |
| 17:16 |
Ries |
because mod_security is a bit paranoid |
| 17:17 |
Ries |
mostly BE stuff as far as I can see |
| 17:17 |
Ries |
The FE should be fine |
| 17:19 |

FE? what is FE? |

what things? :-) |

I was wondering if anyone could point me to any information on template markers for the "Cal" plugin |
| 18:00 |
Ries |
enumerator: I just looked in google |
| 18:01 |
Ries |
ericj_: doesn0t the cal site have some nice examples? |
| 18:02 |

could you send me a link? I have looked on typo3-calendar.org, but I don't really see what I am looking for... |

_Josh_ |
Hi all, I'm looking into many CMS's for a new website I'm creating, and I was wondering if Typo3 meets my needs. My first goal is to create a site that can function as a download site (like FileHippo.com, Download.com, TuCows, etc). The main idea is that I could add categories, software for download, featured software on the frontpage, search engine, community forum. Is typo3 an appropriate solution for me? Thanks for your help. |
| 18:03 |
ericj_ |
I would like to see if I can get a year view to look similar to the list view (which I have working the way I want it) or to see if I can use separate templates for the same view |
| 18:03 |
andreasbalzer |
_Josh_: it can handle this but will handle this better in the near future |
| 18:04 |
_Josh_ |
How so? |
| 18:04 |
andreasbalzer |
_Josh_: there's an extension called DAM, which allows to sort any type of data |
| 18:04 |
andreasbalzer |
there's more about it in the DAM mailinglist |
| 18:05 |
_Josh_ |
I'll check it out, thanks a lot |
| 18:05 |
andreasbalzer |
@everyone: http://survey.typo3.org/index.php?id=13&L=0 |
| 18:05 |
andreasbalzer |
no problem |
| 18:11 |
Ries |
_Josh_: I disagree with andreasbalzer... I don't think that typo3 is teh best CMS for it. It can do the job for sure, but I didn't see any extension that could meet year requiremnt |
| 18:15 |
andreasbalzer |
did i say, that T3 is the best CMS for it? |
| 18:16 |
_Josh_ |
I'm checking out the Typo3's DAM manual now. It seems very nice... Ries, do you have any other suggestions? (purchusing a CMS is also an option, I just like the GPL spirit) |
| 18:17 |
andreasbalzer |
my suggestion would be to use T3 then and help to create a suitable download extension.. ;) Afaik there are only a few that allow downloads of exe files |
| 18:18 |
andreasbalzer |
well.. i think you have to think about the size of your project and the available server systems if you consider using T3. |
| 18:20 |
_Josh_ |
I noticed that FileHippo.com have a "Powered by F-Engine v2.008" credit at the buttom, I tried looking it up but came up with nothing. The size of my project is faily large (I estimate about 50gb of software that has to be organized) |
| 18:20 |
andreasbalzer |
_Josh_ what kind of servers do you have? |
| 18:20 |
andreasbalzer |
_Josh_: and how many? |
| 18:22 |
_Josh_ |
we haven't purchused anything yet. but I'm thinking about getting a 50gb or 100gb storing space, running on Linux, if that's what you meant |
| 18:22 |
andreasbalzer |
only one server? |
| 18:22 |
_Josh_ |
yes |
| 18:22 |
andreasbalzer |
then T3 is definitly not the right choice for your project |
| 18:23 |
_Josh_ |
Isn't there a CMS built solely for that kind of website? (a download website) |
| 18:23 |
andreasbalzer |
assuming you have about 5.000 hits a day you need at least one apache server, one independent (better two) mysql servers and the appropriate system of loadbalancing and proxys.. |
| 18:24 |
andreasbalzer |
because T3 isn't capable of doing both: managing all your visitors and your files... |
| 18:24 |
_Josh_ |
hmm... doesn't that all come as a bundle when you buy a hosting plan? |
| 18:24 |
andreasbalzer |
don't know |
| 18:25 |
andreasbalzer |
but if you just buy the storage and one server, it'll be idle for all the time... |
| 18:25 |
Ries |
_Josh_: if you are a programmer then you can follow andreasbalzer advice, T3 does have a decent framework for creating extension and a couple of excellent template systems |
| 18:26 |
_Josh_ |
I know only basic C++, nothing too fancy... I guess I have to invest more research on how to build a large scale website, unlike the ones I've done so far |
| 18:26 |
Ries |
_Josh_: security is good aswell... If programming your own or hire a programmer is not a option then I would look into something else. I myself am a programmer (it's what I do for a living) and I use T3 for all teh time. Even for one fortune 500 company |
| 18:28 |
_Josh_ |
Could you give me a link for T3's website? all I can find is an online magazine called T3 |
| 18:28 |
enumerator |
andreasbalzer: 5000 hits? dedicated server? is t3 so slow? |
| 18:28 |
Ries |
I think andreasbalzer was mistaking with that number |
| 18:29 |
Ries |
_Josh_: I don't know of any typical download sites |
| 18:29 |
Ries |
_Josh_: based on t3 |
| 18:29 |
_Josh_ |
No, I meant the actual T3 official webpage... so I could read abit on the program |

enumerator: 5.000 users is not much right.. but if you permanently open download slots for them and have only dynamic pages, which means not really any T3 cache system, then 5.000 users can become a real pain |
| 18:30 |
_Josh_ |
Oh, T3=typo3 :) didn't get that |
| 18:31 |
andreasbalzer |
_Josh_ just an idea.. The TER can be compared to a download website |
| 18:31 |
andreasbalzer |
see http://typo3.org/extensions/ |
| 18:32 |
Ries |
_Josh_: we are lazy, we often use FE, BE, TV, T3 etc |
| 18:32 |
enumerator |
andreasbalzer: sorry.. don't understand what did u tell about T3 cache?.. |
| 18:33 |
enumerator |
i'm planning to grow up to 5 hits per day.. when start to relocate to dedicated.. |
| 18:33 |
enumerator |

| 18:33 |
Ries |
guys... guys... We need to seperate hits, pages views, downloads etc... |
| 18:33 |
Ries |
5000 hits a day is nothing for typo3 |
| 18:34 |
enumerator |
sorry :-) |
| 18:34 |
enumerator |
5.000 uniques... |
| 18:34 |
enumerator |
visitors |
| 18:34 |
Ries |
enumerator: that doesn't say anything |
| 18:34 |
Ries |
enumerator: best is to talk about page loads... |
| 18:34 |
enumerator |
for example? |
| 18:35 |
Ries |
enumerator: 100.000 pages impressions is perfectly fine for T3 without getting worried |
| 18:35 |
Ries |
you need to start woring if you get anythign above 1mil page hits a day |
| 18:35 |
_Josh_ |
so why 5,000 downloads a day would be any different for T3? isn't that only a load on the server itself, and not the CMS that runs on it? |
| 18:35 |
Ries |
assuming you have enought bandwidth ofcourse and e resonably powerfull server |
| 18:35 |
andreasbalzer |
Ries: we are talking about _one_ server. Not a cluster ;) |
| 18:35 |
Ries |
teh downloads don't have anything to do with T3, they just get served by the webserver or by some simpel PHP script |
| 18:35 |
andreasbalzer |
_Josh_ right |
| 18:36 |
Ries |
I am talking about a single server |
| 18:36 |
enumerator |
i'm talking about shared :-) i have no money for more |
| 18:36 |
andreasbalzer |
and T3 can really stress your RAM memory.. |
| 18:36 |
Ries |
nothign fancy, Just raid1 HW with like 2-4Gb RAM |
| 18:37 |
_Josh_ |
so what you're saying is that when I buy a domain and storage space I don't get a dedicated server for myself, but I share it with many others who take up RAM, etc? |
| 18:38 |
Ries |
_Josh_: By all means, get your own server.... they are cheap nowdays |
| 18:38 |
Ries |
I have a quad XEON running XEN at 3Ghz, 4GB RAM and 100Mbit bandwidth |
| 18:38 |
Ries |
all in all I pay around 120Euro/month |
| 18:39 |
Ries |
it's a Dell 2950 server |
| 18:39 |
enumerator |
Ries: nice! |
| 18:39 |
Ries |
_Josh_: For you just make sure you get a provdier that can give you the bandwidth for a normall price |
| 18:39 |
Ries |
_Josh_: sounds like you need 1Tb or more per month (if you are serious ins ending files) |
| 18:40 |
Ries |
_Josh_: if you can have the fynancial resources get something at rackSpace |
| 18:40 |
Ries |
enumerator: yes I know :D |
| 18:40 |
Ries |
enumerator: I 'almost' pay more for my montly crappy internet here in EC then for a full blown sever + hosting in NL |
| 18:41 |
enumerator |
Ries: i hope that i will get smth like this in the nearest future :-) about a year |
| 18:41 |

since we're on the topic of server load and caching, I have encountered an issue where I am using GIFBUILDER to generate an image with an opaque overlay and shadowed text on top, and I would like to see first, how to make images cycle on page refresh which requires me to turn page caching off. This leads to an issue where generating the image bogs down the server... any suggestions? |
| 18:42 |
Ries |
ericj_: How many images? |
| 18:42 |
Ries |
since these images do get cached, unless they are dynamic, for example don't render teh current date in GIFBUILDER |
| 18:43 |
enumerator |
sorry, guys, i need to go.. thanx to all! |
| 18:45 |
_Josh_ |
I also need to go, thanks very much for the help, guys! |
| 18:45 |
enumerator |
u r the best :-) |
| 18:48 |
ericj_ |
well, I have an undetermined amount of images (max of 25) that the user will upload but only 1 will be displayed at a time per page, 2 text fields for the text that will overlay, and the opaque bar... all in all, this generates a JPEG with a size of 100+KB (a base image of 70k will become 116k after GIFBUILDER processing is completed) Don't know if it matters but the images are 561x238 px |
| 18:52 |
ericj_ |
I am running this on a somewhat slow test server (not sure of the specs...) but the process still takes 30 seconds to 1 minute on average just to create the image and load the page with no other dynamic content (aside from menus) |
| 19:07 |
neonide |
does anyone have any experience with fe_user_registration... if so, i have it working, but when i create a new user, it takes a solid minute to actually process it before the final confirmation comes through, weird |
| 19:10 |
neonide |
dangit, yeah, every step of this process takes forever, it seems to timeout, then after more than a minute, boom it works |
| 19:11 |
neonide |
ericj_: ha, it seems we are both having performance issues |
| 19:13 |
ericj_ |
I apologize for my ignorance, but I have been stumped on these 3 issues (all mentioned above) for a few days now... I have been able to work out a lot of issues up to this point, but these 3 are killing me: |
| 19:13 |
ericj_ |
1. Getting images to randomly cycle on page refresh (I may also need to display text specific to the displayed image) |
| 19:13 |
ericj_ |
2. Increasing the efficiency of GIFBUILDER to reduce server processing |
| 19:13 |
ericj_ |
3. Either modifying the year view to mimic the list view of the "cal" extension or get the list view to use 2 templates depending on the page... |
| 19:14 |
ericj_ |
neonide: so it seems... Hopefully my issues will be mostly resolved when I move to the live server, but this still hurts development time... |
| 19:14 |
neonide |
e |
| 19:15 |
neonide |
ericj_: i hope it is, but i doubt it, gifbuilder is not exactly a difficult thing for even an ancient cpu |
| 19:15 |
neonide |
it should never take 30 seconds to a minute |
| 19:21 |
ericj_ |
true, but I am creating a image single gifbuilder image that contains 2 standard images, 1 gifbuilder image (yes, one nested in another) that dynamically sizes and forms an opaque bar, 2 text fields generated from input fields, and 2 text fields based on the previous text fields that have 4 iterations a piece to create a dropshadow that is dark enough to match the designs. All of which the... |
| 19:21 |
ericj_ |
...main gifbuilder image must layer and combine into the final output... |
| 19:21 |
ericj_ |
i don't know if that all makes a difference, but it is the way it must be done... |
| 19:22 |
neonide |
wow i sure hope that is not a high-traffic site |
| 19:23 |
ericj_ |
yeah... well, it is for a local community college, and it contains links to the student and faculty portals, so there is a lot of traffic potential on the site... |
| 19:27 |
ericj_ |
I am trying to talk them into not having that functionality on every page (they still want to see what I can do as well as what performance issues they may have on the live server), but they are adamant about having the images cycle on at least the home page. The good thing is that there is no generated text on the home page, so that makes things easier (I guess...) |
| 20:23 |
ericj_ |
other than news.netfielders.de, are there any other good newsgroups/newsgroup servers specific to Typo3? |
| 21:07 |
voidus |
ericj_: no. but there is forums like typo3.net - german or typo3.biz - russian, sites like typo3wizard.com |
| 21:09 |
ericj_ |
yeah, I have looked at some sites like typo3wizard.com, but I cannot seem to find what I am looking for. I am fairly new to T3, so maybe I just don't know where to look or what I should be looking for |
| 21:11 |
voidus |
ericj_: so just ask here, or in typo3.english mailing list, if you prefer.. |
| 21:14 |
ericj_ |
voidus:I have a couple questions posted here already, but in case you don't have/see those, here they are again: |

ericj_ |
1. Getting images to randomly cycle on page refresh (I may also need to display text specific to the displayed image) |
| 21:14 |
ericj_ |
2. Increasing the efficiency of GIFBUILDER to reduce server processing |

I appreciate any help or guidance |
| 21:16 |
voidus |
1. there is an extension for this.. at least 2: random content and sirr |
| 21:17 |
voidus |
2. images, generated by GIFBUILDER created just once and stored in typo3temp/GB/ |
| 21:18 |
voidus |
3. use TS conditions for those |

|Awillys| |
hi there |

Awillys |
k |
| 22:44 |
ericj_ |
voidus:sorry for the delayed response. |
| 22:44 |
ericj_ |
1. I am not sure if random content will handle random images... I will look into sirr. |
| 22:44 |
ericj_ |
2. The problem with the GIFBUILDER is that as the page is refreshed for every page that is not the home page, I need to take the image, overlay an opaque bar on the image, overlay text from input fields, then add a dropshadow to the text. This text, unlike the home page, is static, only the image changes. Also, some images might be used on more than one page but will have different text. |
| 22:44 |
ericj_ |
3. Since I am fairly new to Typo3, could you point me to a good/intuitive tutorial on conditions? A TS example would work just the same. |
