Hi - there are a lot of gallery-ext. Which one do you prefer? I didn't ever use a gallery in typo3 so I'm a little bit lost |
| 12:04 |
voidus |
tilmanBK: do you use dam or not? |
| 12:04 |
tilmanBK |
dam ? |
| 12:05 |
voidus |
digital asset management |
| 12:05 |
tilmanBK |
never heard of that :-) |
| 12:05 |
voidus |
if not, i recommend jm_gallery |
| 12:07 |
tilmanBK |
ok, thx - that's a starting point :) |
| 12:07 |
tilmanBK |
do you know where I can see an implemented example in the web? |
| 12:12 |
voidus |
tilmanBK: http://www.m00re.de/personal/photos/ |
| 12:13 |
tilmanBK |
nice, thx |
| 12:13 |
tilmanBK |
this looks good :-) |

Ries |
morning/afternoon folks |
| 13:23 |
Ries |
hey guys, I am making 'yet another gallery' (but with some additional features I need) |
| 13:23 |
Ries |
what is prefered, FE editing or BE editing of the gallery content? |
| 13:23 |
andreasbalzer |
BE |
| 13:24 |
andreasbalzer |
:D |
| 13:24 |
andreasbalzer |
will it be DAM capable? |
| 13:24 |
Ries |
andreasbalzer: I will not use the list module for adding records.... |
| 13:24 |
Ries |
since this gallery will allow for uploading multi-files at a time, or you can use FTP |
| 13:24 |
andreasbalzer |
this possible with DAM too.. |
| 13:25 |
Ries |
I will not use DAM |
| 13:25 |
andreasbalzer |
oh ok.. |
| 13:25 |
Ries |
although I can feed DAM with information if I want to so other extension can use the content... |
| 13:26 |
Ries |
it's more about editing each image or image group price infoo, date info etc etc etc |
| 13:27 |
Ries |
if I do it on the FE I can make it more user friendly.... |
| 13:32 |
brain-xy |
hello all :) |
| 13:33 |
Ries |
ey brain-xy |
| 13:33 |
brain-xy |
hi ries :) |
| 13:36 |
brain-xy |
ries.. do you know a possibility to change the date formatting in the BE? |
| 14:02 |
Rocketjock |
Morning Everyone |

Rocketjock |
Morning |Awillys| |
| 14:27 |
ovis |
hi what is going on when the htmlarea RTE is loosing its colors and other markup when saved ???? |
| 14:28 |
ovis |
and what is the best kind of RTE to use with 3.8.1 |
| 14:37 |
ovis |
mmh |
| 14:43 |
Rocketjock |
For 3.8.1 I think you want version 1.1.4...(Not sure of the version number) |
| 14:44 |
Rocketjock |
losing color happens.. I have to clean out the font tags then re-save sometimes |
| 14:45 |
Rocketjock |
if it doesn't go away try using TinyRTE |
| 14:45 |
Rocketjock |
instead of HTMLArea |
| 14:46 |
Rocketjock |
if your pasting the text in from word the fonts don't always transfer correctly |
| 14:53 |
Rocketjock |
Hi gerards! |
| 14:53 |
gerards |
hi Rocketjock, i don't see you around for quite some time. |
| 14:53 |
gerards |
how was you good friday? |
| 14:54 |
Rocketjock |
Friday was fine ...yours? |
| 14:54 |
gerards |
not bad. |
| 14:54 |
gerards |
went out of the house for the first time after 4 days. |
| 14:54 |
gerards |
;) |
| 14:54 |
gerards |
sad huh? |
| 14:54 |
Rocketjock |
I have been working on my network... fighting with subnetwasks |
| 14:55 |
Rocketjock |
sub netmasks |
| 14:55 |
gerards |
i was fooling around with svn. |
| 14:55 |
Rocketjock |
4 days.... dang |
| 14:55 |
gerards |
know much about svn Rocketjock? |
| 14:55 |
Rocketjock |
nope...sry |
| 14:56 |
Rocketjock |
not event sure what svn is :) |
| 14:56 |
Rocketjock |
what is it? |
| 14:56 |
gerards |
its like CVS. |
| 14:56 |
Rocketjock |
oh ok |
| 14:56 |
gerards |
its a versioning system. |
| 14:56 |
gerards |
yeah ok... svn refuses to NOT create the typo3conf/ext directory if it already exists. so I might have to checkout EACH extension one by one |
| 14:57 |
gerards |
i think its rather silly. but hey, who am I? i'm just a php programmer. |
| 14:57 |
Rocketjock |
each....holy cow |
| 14:57 |
gerards |
each extension that we're working on. |
| 14:57 |
gerards |
anyway, whats' wrong with your netmasks? |
| 14:57 |
Rocketjock |
holy cow was not an easter weekend pun :) |
| 14:58 |
gerards |
oh... |
| 14:58 |
gerards |
sorry |
| 14:58 |
gerards |
wait. |
| 14:58 |
gerards |
HAHAHAHAHAH! LOL! ROFL. |
| 14:58 |
gerards |
better? |
| 14:58 |
gerards |
;) |
| 14:58 |
Rocketjock |
I need to figure it out... don't know how it works |
| 14:58 |
Rocketjock |
lol yes thanks |
| 14:59 |
gerards |
Rocketjock: you use Parallels right? |
| 14:59 |
Rocketjock |
yes |
| 14:59 |
gerards |
does Parallels allow you to create virtual networks? |
| 15:00 |
Rocketjock |
you know, I don't know... but that is a great idea |
| 15:00 |
gerards |
yeah, you can just create like 8-10 linux VM with 200MB each. and fool around there right? |
| 15:02 |
Rocketjock |
I will have to look into that... that would be better then taking my network down all the time...because I don't know what I am doing :) |
| 15:03 |
gerards |
yeah. |
| 15:20 |
Rocketjock |
time to eat bbl |
| 15:38 |

hi Fabian |

hi Fabian |
| 18:56 |
uschi |
somehow it is really silent, still |
| 19:13 |
TachoKnight |
can anyone assist me in adding page content to another page? |
| 19:13 |
TachoKnight |
in 3.8.1 |
| 19:14 |
TachoKnight |
what i'm trying to do is have a typo3 page that is displayed within another page, so that the first page is nothing but text to be modified, while the "main" page, with the template, displays it |
| 19:14 |
TachoKnight |
so i can give access to just the one page, and not the main page (with the template) |
| 19:15 |
TachoKnight |
i'm sorry if this is trivial, but for the life of me i can't figure out how to do it |
| 19:15 |
TachoKnight |
'cause i don't want the content on the main page |
| 19:17 |
TachoKnight |
temp.mainTemplate = TEMPLATE |
| 19:17 |
TachoKnight |
temp.mainTemplate { |
| 19:17 |
TachoKnight |
template = FILE |
| 19:17 |
TachoKnight |
template.file=fileadmin/cc_main.html |
| 19:17 |
TachoKnight |
workonSubpart = DOCUMENT_BODY |
| 19:17 |
TachoKnight |
subparts.SPOTLIGHT_TEXT = TEXT |
| 19:17 |
TachoKnight |
subparts.SPOTLIGHT_TEXT.content = Spotlight.pagecontent.get |
| 19:17 |
TachoKnight |
} |
| 19:17 |
TachoKnight |
# Default page object |
| 19:17 |
TachoKnight |
page = PAGE |
| 19:17 |
TachoKnight |
page.typeNum = 0 |
| 19:17 |
TachoKnight |
page.10 < temp.mainTemplate |
| 19:17 |
TachoKnight |
page.stylesheet = fileadmin/cc_main.css |
| 19:18 |
TachoKnight |
that's what i've got, but it doesn't work, in that the content from Spotlight (a page in typo3) doesn't show |
| 19:19 |
TachoKnight |
so i'm not sure what to do |
| 19:20 |
TachoKnight |
i've been going through the tutorial, but it seems to suggest that the content and the page are the same |
| 19:29 |
TachoKnight |
anyone? |
| 20:14 |
voidus |
TachoKnight: you need to use CONTENT or RECORDS instead of TEXT |
| 20:14 |
voidus |
TEXT have no property ".content" |
| 20:14 |
TachoKnight |
so it'd be subparts.SPOTLIGHT_TEXT = RECORDS |
| 20:14 |
TachoKnight |
subparts.SPOTLIGHT_TEXT.record = 1? |
| 20:15 |
uschi |
hi voidus and TachoKnight :) |
| 20:15 |
TachoKnight |
hi uschi |
| 20:15 |
TachoKnight |
and hi voidus |
| 20:15 |
TachoKnight |
:) |
| 20:15 |
voidus |
hi uschi :) |
| 20:15 |
uschi |
finally life comes up here |
| 20:15 |
TachoKnight |
does that look right, voidus? |
| 20:15 |
voidus |
TachoKnight: no :) |
| 20:15 |
TachoKnight |
of course not :) |
| 20:16 |
voidus |
RECORDS have no property ".record" :) |
| 20:16 |
uschi |
they have a property select? |
| 20:16 |
uschi |
voidus will enlighten the two of us TachoKnight |
| 20:16 |
TachoKnight |
i hope so :) |
| 20:16 |
TachoKnight |
i'm a total n00b with typo3 templating |
| 20:17 |
uschi |
so we shall see you here more often, i guess :) |
| 20:18 |
TachoKnight |
i believe so |
| 20:18 |
voidus |
RECORDS have property ".source"... as i at 1000th time read in tsref :) |
| 20:18 |
uschi |
oh shit |
| 20:19 |
uschi |
TachoKnight there are lot of things to learn :) |
| 20:19 |
TachoKnight |
oh yes |
| 20:19 |
TachoKnight |
it's been interesting, but quite confusing |
| 20:20 |
uschi |
and never ever use CONTENT or RECORDS for the pages table |
| 20:20 |
uschi |
it is powerfull and even fun, but the learning curve is high |
| 20:20 |
TachoKnight |
what do you mean? |
| 20:20 |
uschi |
take it like playing a game |
| 20:20 |
TachoKnight |
pages table? |
| 20:20 |
TachoKnight |
yes, but i lose at games :) |
| 20:21 |
uschi |
if you create a page, that is stored in table pages |
| 20:21 |
TachoKnight |
in the db |
| 20:21 |
uschi |
yes |
| 20:21 |
TachoKnight |
ok |
| 20:21 |
uschi |
if you create a record, that record is stored in tt_content |
| 20:22 |
uschi |
your bible for the beginning is the tsref |
| 20:22 |
uschi |
tsref == short for TypoScript reference |
| 20:22 |
TachoKnight |
yes, i'm looking at it now |
| 20:22 |
TachoKnight |
i was going through the ts tutorial |
| 20:23 |
uschi |
next important thing: never ever mix up TSConfig and TSref |
| 20:23 |
TachoKnight |
yes, i found a lot of my time spent in the tsconfig manual |
| 20:23 |
TachoKnight |
"but i already installed it!!!" |
| 20:23 |
TachoKnight |
:) |
| 20:24 |
TachoKnight |
so i can load a subpart with a record? |
| 20:25 |
voidus |
yes |
| 20:25 |
uschi |
voidus is the one to ask here |
| 20:25 |
uschi |
i am not familiar with subparts, from the beginning onwards i used templavoila |
| 20:25 |
TachoKnight |
yes, i can't use that though |
| 20:25 |
TachoKnight |
doesn't support 3.8.1 |
| 20:25 |
TachoKnight |
and i can't change the installed config |
| 20:25 |
TachoKnight |
not my server :) |
| 20:26 |
TachoKnight |
so i changed my template to: |
| 20:26 |
TachoKnight |
subparts.SPOTLIGHT_TEXT = RECORD |
| 20:26 |
TachoKnight |
subparts.SPOTLIGHT_TEXT.source.field = 156 |
| 20:26 |
TachoKnight |
where 156 is the actual "spotlight" page id |
| 20:26 |
TachoKnight |
but i don't get the text :( |
| 20:27 |
voidus |
no.. |
| 20:27 |
voidus |
.source = pages_156 |
| 20:27 |
voidus |
no |
| 20:27 |
voidus |
.source = tt_content_156 :) |
| 20:27 |
voidus |
btw, what is 156? :) |
| 20:27 |
uschi |
*L* |
| 20:27 |
TachoKnight |
the "spotlight" page |
| 20:28 |
uschi |
ah, it is a page |
| 20:28 |
uschi |
TachoKnight where are you from? |
| 20:28 |
TachoKnight |
hmm |
| 20:28 |
TachoKnight |
chicago, usa |
| 20:28 |
voidus |
so.. i think, we need CONTENT to select all content elements from page.. |
| 20:29 |
TachoKnight |
hm |
| 20:29 |
TachoKnight |
so, this is my whole template right now: |
| 20:29 |
TachoKnight |
temp.mainTemplate = TEMPLATE |
| 20:29 |
TachoKnight |
temp.mainTemplate { |
| 20:29 |
TachoKnight |
template = FILE |
| 20:29 |
TachoKnight |
template.file=fileadmin/cc_main.html |
| 20:29 |
TachoKnight |
workonSubpart = DOCUMENT_BODY |
| 20:29 |
TachoKnight |
subparts.SPOTLIGHT_TEXT = RECORD |
| 20:29 |
TachoKnight |
subparts.SPOTLIGHT_TEXT.source.field = tt_content_156 |
| 20:29 |
TachoKnight |
} |
| 20:29 |
TachoKnight |
# Default page object |
| 20:29 |
TachoKnight |
page = PAGE |
| 20:29 |
TachoKnight |
page.typeNum = 0 |
| 20:29 |
TachoKnight |
page.10 < temp.mainTemplate |
| 20:29 |
TachoKnight |
page.stylesheet = fileadmin/cc_main.css |
| 20:29 |
TachoKnight |
does that look okay? |
| 20:29 |
voidus |
no.. |
| 20:29 |
TachoKnight |
where are you folks from? |
| 20:29 |
TachoKnight |
i didn't think so |
| 20:29 |
TachoKnight |
:) |
| 20:29 |
uschi |
germany |
| 20:29 |
TachoKnight |
as it doesn't work |
| 20:29 |
TachoKnight |
:) |
| 20:29 |
voidus |
russia |
| 20:29 |
TachoKnight |
ah, where in russia? |
| 20:30 |
voidus |
hahaha :) |
| 20:30 |
TachoKnight |
i have been to moscow, talin, and st. petersburg |
| 20:30 |
voidus |
no.. |
| 20:30 |
voidus |
small city |
| 20:30 |
TachoKnight |
ah |
| 20:30 |
voidus |
penza |
| 20:30 |
TachoKnight |
didn't make it there last time :) |
| 20:30 |
TachoKnight |
sorry |
| 20:30 |
voidus |
np |
| 20:31 |
TachoKnight |
so i'm not loading the subpart right? |
| 20:31 |
voidus |
change RECORDS to CONTENT |
| 20:32 |
TachoKnight |
so it becomes: |
| 20:32 |
TachoKnight |
temp.mainTemplate = TEMPLATE |
| 20:32 |
TachoKnight |
temp.mainTemplate { |
| 20:32 |
TachoKnight |
template = FILE |
| 20:32 |
TachoKnight |
template.file=fileadmin/cc_main.html |
| 20:32 |
TachoKnight |
workonSubpart = DOCUMENT_BODY |
| 20:32 |
TachoKnight |
subparts.SPOTLIGHT_TEXT = CONTENT |
| 20:32 |
TachoKnight |
subparts.SPOTLIGHT_TEXT.source.field = tt_content_156 |
| 20:32 |
TachoKnight |
} |
| 20:32 |
TachoKnight |
# Default page object |
| 20:32 |
TachoKnight |
page = PAGE |
| 20:32 |
TachoKnight |
page.typeNum = 0 |
| 20:32 |
TachoKnight |
page.10 < temp.mainTemplate |
| 20:32 |
TachoKnight |
page.stylesheet = fileadmin/cc_main.css |
| 20:34 |
TachoKnight |
does the spotlight (id=156) need a template as well? it's not meant to be viewed anywhere but in the main page |
| 20:34 |
voidus |
subparts.SPOTLIGHT_TEXT { |
| 20:34 |
voidus |
table = tt_content |
| 20:34 |
voidus |
select.pidInList = 156 |
| 20:34 |
voidus |
select.orderBy = sorting |
| 20:34 |
voidus |
} |
| 20:35 |
TachoKnight |
can i do that inside the temp.mainTemplate block? |
| 20:35 |
TachoKnight |
or does it get broken out |
| 20:36 |
voidus |
TachoKnight: you can |
| 20:36 |
TachoKnight |
oaky |
| 20:37 |
TachoKnight |
okay |
| 20:37 |
TachoKnight |
so it looks like: |
| 20:37 |
TachoKnight |
temp.mainTemplate { |
| 20:37 |
TachoKnight |
template = FILE |
| 20:37 |
TachoKnight |
template.file=fileadmin/cc_main.html |
| 20:37 |
TachoKnight |
workonSubpart = DOCUMENT_BODY |
| 20:37 |
TachoKnight |
subparts.SPOTLIGHT_TEXT { |
| 20:37 |
TachoKnight |
table = tt_content |
| 20:37 |
TachoKnight |
select.pidInList = 156 |
| 20:37 |
TachoKnight |
select.orderBy = sorting |
| 20:37 |
TachoKnight |
} |
| 20:37 |
TachoKnight |
} |
| 20:38 |
voidus |
you forget = CONTENT |
| 20:38 |
TachoKnight |
night uschi |
| 20:38 |
voidus |
good night, uschi |
| 20:38 |
TachoKnight |
where does content go? |
| 20:38 |
uschi |
good night voidus and TachoKnight |
| 20:38 |
voidus |
TachoKnight: before subparts.SPOTLIGHT_TEXT |
| 20:39 |
voidus |
TachoKnight: copy that ^^ to phpfi.com, please |
| 20:39 |
voidus |

you are to me |

i've been banging my head on this for hours |

If you want to learn typoscript, then a good beginners tutorial is this one: http://typo3.org/documentation/document-library/core-documentation/doc_core_tsbyex/0.0.16/view/ |
| 21:44 |
TachoKnight |
thanks pmk |
| 21:44 |
TachoKnight |
part of the problem, i think, is that i'm still using 3.8.1 |
| 21:45 |
TachoKnight |
and there doesn't seem to be an easy upgrade to the latest 4.x version |
| 21:45 |
TachoKnight |
which a lot of the docs seem to reference now |
| 22:09 |
pwatol |
I'm looking for a new CMS for a site I manage, and typo3 looks like it may fit the bill (I read through the tutorial on the web site). There are just a couple of things I need to do that weren't addressed there: I want to allow any registered user to add content to the home page (a la the News module in PHPNuke), and I want users to be able to self-register with email confirmation. Are these things that typo3 is set up to handle |
| 22:14 |
magusdigitalis |
somebody around? |
| 22:14 |
pwatol |
I am. But that won't help you probably. |
| 22:14 |
magusdigitalis |
well, worth a try i'd say. ;) |
| 22:15 |
pwatol |
I asked a question about 5 minutes ago, and have had nothing but silence. Do you know much about typo3? |
| 22:15 |
magusdigitalis |
LOL was about to ask you that ... |
| 22:16 |
pwatol |
That's what we get for believing the hype on the typo3 web site about how useful the irc channel is. ;) |
| 22:16 |
magusdigitalis |
well, ok, lets give it a try - whats your problem? maybe i CAN help you nevertheless |
| 22:17 |
TachoKnight |
voidus: thanks again for all the help....you really saved my sanity! |
| 22:17 |
voidus |
:)) |
| 22:17 |
TachoKnight |
i have to go help get dinner ready, but in case you take off (it's rather late there), thanks again |
| 22:17 |

VOIDUS ROCKS THE TYPO3 WORLD! |
| 22:18 |
pwatol |
I've never actually used typo3, and I've got a web site I'm managing with PHPNuke, but that's got its limitations and I'm looking for a new CMS. I think typo3 may work, but I need to know if it has a "News" type functionality where registered users can submit news stories to the site. |
| 22:18 |
voidus |
:))) |
| 22:18 |
magusdigitalis |
see pwatol, another one made happy :) |
| 22:18 |
voidus |
good night |
| 22:18 |
magusdigitalis |
pwatol > actually it has such a feature |
| 22:19 |
magusdigitalis |
the most common extension used for this is called tt_news |
| 22:19 |
pwatol |
Good news. The tutorial has all sorts of info on making new users through the back end. Can users self-register with email confirmation? |
| 22:20 |
magusdigitalis |
usually yes. the process depends on the extension you use for that |
| 22:20 |
pwatol |
Is this an extension that lets any registered user submit or just ones you assign into some news admin group? |
| 22:22 |
magusdigitalis |
again, the functionality depends on the extension. i have used tt_news just for my very own handling, thus can't really answer you about that |
| 22:23 |
magusdigitalis |
however consindering the functionallity of "newloginbox " and tt_news i'd positively say yes you can achieve it |
| 22:23 |
pwatol |
Oh, and can you write code to build pages off a database easily? Here's an example of what I mean: http://www.mibci.org/modules.php?name=MiBCI_organization&file=congress&op=auction_list&event_year=2007&event_name=2007%20Ornithological%20Congress - I built a table in the db to keep track of donations, and the code dynamically creates this page. |
| 22:26 |
magusdigitalis |
ah, greetings to the states :) - well sure you can do that. one way would be by doing it manually on an ordinary page, another one would be by using a thirdparty php-script, and again another way could be using a fitting extension for that purpose |
| 22:27 |
magusdigitalis |
as TYPO3 is a framework based on a mysql database you have all the ways wide open to access your data whether it be by TYPO3 internally or by included php-scripts |
| 22:28 |
pwatol |
So php scripts can get embedded on pages? I'm fairly new to php and self-taught, but I keep finding ways to incorporate it into web pages. |
| 22:29 |
magusdigitalis |
they sure can, i use an extension called "lumophpinclude" to make it even easier for me to use them |
| 22:33 |
pwatol |
Cool. Sounds like I need to set aside some time to really get into typo3 and see how it works. Considering that I've already got the site up live, any suggestions on where to develop the replacement site? I don't want to screw the whole works up for a couple of weeks while I figure out what's what. And I've already got some registered users and some phpBB messages. Is there a phpBB extension for typo3? Or something similar that |
| 22:35 |
magusdigitalis |
shouldn't a big thing to develop your new site aside your existing one. to be absolutely sure to not harm your active one you could copy the whole T3-system into a subfolder and start development from there |
| 22:36 |
magusdigitalis |
I'm not totally sure but I think I saw a "bridge" for phpBB |
| 22:37 |
magusdigitalis |
However, if you allow a proposal, change to another boardsystem as phpBB has a standing reputation of being the most hacked board on the net. |
| 22:38 |
pwatol |
Oh, heck. If you saw how many posts we've had to date, you'd see why I'd almost welcome a hack just to get the traffic up. ;) |
| 22:38 |
pwatol |
Any suggestions on a replacement? |
| 22:38 |
magusdigitalis |
LOL |
| 22:39 |
magusdigitalis |
hmmm..."woltlab burning board," vbulletin, or to keep it cost effective (as in FREE) check "smf" |
| 22:40 |
pwatol |
Free. That about sums up our budget. |
| 22:41 |
magusdigitalis |
take your time and visit: http://www.simplemachines.org/ |

Ries |
good afternoon folks |
| 22:46 |
magusdigitalis |
deep 'n dark night that is around me ;) |
| 22:46 |
pwatol |
Early evening here, but at least it's stopped snowing. |
| 22:47 |
magusdigitalis |
are you close to the lake? |
| 22:48 |
pwatol |
Dead smack between Lake Michigan and Lakes Erie and Huron. Don't actually get lake effect snow this far in. |
| 22:49 |
magusdigitalis |
I C, been there in CHI couple of years ago during this time of the year and "froze me backside" ;) |
| 22:50 |
pwatol |
I'm about a 4 hour drive from Chicago. Everything went warm and springy here for a couple of weeks - daffodils in bloom and everything - and then the temps dropped just below freezing again. So all our spring rain is coming down as spring snow. It's just not sticking. |
| 22:52 |
pwatol |
Oh wait. There's the snow again. |
| 22:52 |
magusdigitalis |
shouldn't have spoken 'bout it :) |
| 22:54 |
magusdigitalis |
we still have some snow here on the mountains around and as long as that stuff is there you might have the sun but the winds are still rather chilly |
| 22:54 |
magusdigitalis |
Hey Ries, no snow where you are right? |
| 22:54 |
pwatol |
Whereabouts are you located? |
| 22:55 |
magusdigitalis |
Bavaria |
| 22:55 |
magusdigitalis |
Quite close to the austrian border |
| 22:56 |
pwatol |
Guess that means I shouldn't waste my time trying to get you to join our little conservation group, eh? ;) |
| 22:57 |
magusdigitalis |
<g> if i were around I'd really be interested |
| 22:57 |
magusdigitalis |
on the other hand, we all have more than enough to conserve right? |
| 23:01 |
magusdigitalis |
theres one thing i'd like to show you though, regarding easy and fearfree development -> http://typo3.org/download/installers/ - check out the WAMP-package. that one provides you with a local environment to work your ways to a better understanding of T3 and its ways to get things done |
| 23:07 |
magusdigitalis |
as i'm already here I should at least ask about the challenge that led me here -> anybody here already updated (say a 4.0.3) to 4.1.1? |
| 23:09 |
pwatol |
Sorry about disappearing - got a call from a friend for tech support. |
| 23:11 |
magusdigitalis |
no big deal :) guess it's up to me now to wait for someone who can help me with my request |
| 23:12 |
pwatol |
I wish I could help, but I only know enough to be dangerous. :) I just know more than the other biologists I work with. |
| 23:13 |
magusdigitalis |
NOT to be dangerous to birds that is :) |
| 23:13 |
pwatol |
Oh, maybe to just a few of them. ;) |
| 23:13 |
pwatol |
The tasty ones. |
| 23:14 |
magusdigitalis |
mostly fried ones i assume :) |
| 23:14 |
pwatol |
There's that. Then there's the goose jerky or the dove with water chestnut and bacon that folks have brought to pot lucks. |
| 23:15 |
magusdigitalis |
yummy! |
| 23:15 |
pwatol |
Woodcock tends to show up sometimes at game dinners as well. |
| 23:15 |
magusdigitalis |
you're kiddin' right? |
| 23:16 |
pwatol |
Nope. I work at a wildlife agency, and pot luck lunches and dinners tend to feature a fair amount of wild game dishes. |
| 23:17 |
pwatol |
I miss working in New Hampshire where you could count on seeing moose chili or moose stew showing up. No moose hunt in Michigan. |
| 23:17 |
magusdigitalis |
I see...yet i've never heard about having woodcock for dinner...i wonder whether its tastes somewhat....woody!? ;) |
| 23:18 |
magusdigitalis |
no moose at all in MI? |
| 23:18 |
pwatol |
Actually, they eat worms. So they should taste like bait. ;) |
| 23:18 |
magusdigitalis |
rotflmao, gooooood one ! |
| 23:18 |
pwatol |
There are moose, just not enough to support a harvest. |
| 23:20 |
pwatol |
Did you guess you'd have such an educational discussion in here today? |
| 23:20 |
magusdigitalis |
one could say illegal aliens from CDN |
| 23:21 |
magusdigitalis |
nope ! not at all :) which makes it even more than just a possibility for me to return to this highly entertaining place :) |
| 23:22 |
pwatol |
You must've read about our moose lift! Check out http://www.michigan.gov/dnr/0,1607,7-153-10319-110006--,00.html for photos of them flying the moose in from Canada. |
| 23:22 |
magusdigitalis |
At least I learned tonight that one can have woodcock for dinner...and we DO have'm here you kno' .... <G> |
| 23:24 |
magusdigitalis |
That was 1985, so by now they should've happily procreated to a stable moose community... |
| 23:24 |
pwatol |
Heck yeah, I know. We hosted the American Woodcock Symposium last year and had speakers from the UK, France, and Belarus. The French guys showed us slides of them studying cow pies looking for woodcock sign. This is *not* where we look for woodcock sign in the US. |
| 23:24 |
pwatol |
There's just not that much moose habitat in the state. And the deer carry brainworm, which can take down a moose. |
| 23:25 |
magusdigitalis |
brainworm comparable to CJS? |
| 23:26 |
magusdigitalis |
creutzfeld jacobs that is... |
| 23:27 |
magusdigitalis |
i mean they both seem to mush up the brain matter |
| 23:27 |
pwatol |
Nope, it's literally a worm that migrates into the brain of the host animal and chews it up. The deer/elk equivalent to CJS is CWD (chronic wasting disease), which thankfully hasn't been found in the state yet. CWD is just a protein that's gone bad. Very very bad. |
| 23:29 |
pwatol |
There's stories from out west where they incinerated CWD deer and then found the CWD prions in the soil the next year. Scary stuff. |
| 23:29 |
Ries |
pwatol: phpNuke can't be compared with typo3 :) I am not sure if phpuke is a CMS at all |
| 23:29 |
magusdigitalis |
i actually do remember about the worm now that you say it. you might have heard that we had a CJS-sweep amongs cattle just about a year ago around here... |
| 23:29 |
magusdigitalis |
Straight shot Ries. |
| 23:30 |
magusdigitalis |
Hows the weather in quito? |
| 23:30 |
Ries |
magusdigitalis: Snow, in Ecuador?!?!?! no way! |
| 23:30 |
pwatol |
But for someone with no experience with these newfangled web site systems, it was a darn handy place to start learning. :) |
| 23:30 |
magusdigitalis |
up the Andes perhaps ...? |
| 23:31 |
Ries |
magusdigitalis: A bit higher yes, I am just at 3300 meter |
| 23:31 |
Ries |
some vulcanos do have snow whoch sometimes can see from here |
| 23:31 |
magusdigitalis |
ok folks, I have my "coming out" now! YES I USED PHPNUKE TOO WAY BACK THEM but i was young and needed the money! |
| 23:32 |
Ries |
Bit appart from that, it's always anywhere between 15 and 25 degrees |
| 23:32 |
Ries |
magusdigitalis: Go brush your teeth.. we are not allowed to say 'nuke' in this room :D |
| 23:32 |
magusdigitalis |
not much difference to here regarding the temperature... |
| 23:33 |
magusdigitalis |
ok, so we say "php-you-know-what" - so say we all! |
| 23:33 |
pwatol |
I'll have you know that my first web editor was Notepad. Then I graduated to Netscape Composer and MS Frontpage. I don't know if you can make decent looking web sites with just Notepad any more. |
| 23:34 |
magusdigitalis |
you should've had your challenges creating graphics with that one i guess : |
| 23:34 |
pwatol |
This'll probably date me, but....... I used to play around with ASCII art in high school. |
| 23:35 |
magusdigitalis |
Hey Ries, know anything about an issue with the rte in the new 4.1.1? i updated from an earlier version and now have issues with that thing...and No I'm not yet on Firefox 2.003 |
| 23:36 |
magusdigitalis |
Ascii art, what an arcane piece of sorcery! |
| 23:37 |
magusdigitalis |
just to tell you that there's still hope: I startet using notepad too way back when... |
| 23:39 |
Ries |
magusdigitalis: I can't tell about RTE... at least for a 4.1.1 versio |
| 23:39 |
Ries |
n |
| 23:39 |
magusdigitalis |
well, thanks anyway |

pwatol: if you want to make a move away from nuke |

Ries |
then write down for yourself what you expect from a CMS |
| 23:53 |
Ries |
typo3 can do it all using the framework |

But sometimes it's best to get something out of the box |

Ries: Oh, I know what I want it to do. But there's about a bazillion CMSes out there, and it takes a couple of days to run through each manual (at least). From reading the typo3 tutorial, it sounded like it might work. I need something that will fairly easily allow non-geeks to create simple web pages within the site while leaving the rest of the site alone. I need something that supports user groups so that I can create/manager |

I need something that will let me easily add tables to the db and code up pages that can query the db. |
| 23:58 |
pwatol |
In an ideal world, it'd also let me transfer over all the users and forum posts from the site I've already got built. |

The nice part is that I can take a little bit of time to learn a CMS - the site's already out there and working. |
