| 02:00 |
yakoi |
in the meanwhile, I'll make my questionning a bit more TYPO3-oriented and ask if those of you who write extensions usualy keep the copyright or give it away to customers |
| 02:02 |
gentooma |
yakoi: although I'm not the typical extension developer I usually stick to GPL v.2 -but I always talk about that to the costumers in first place |
| 02:03 |
yakoi |
this is the license, not the copyright |
| 02:04 |
yakoi |
copyright is owned by the entity/person who wrote the code unless that right is given away |

| 02:05 |

yakoi: okay in this case I usually retain my owner ship - but on the other hand I almost give up my owner ship due to the licence |
| 02:08 |
yakoi |
yes, you're right in a sens, and that's how I saw it. But the copyright gives you the right to change the license at any time |
| 02:08 |
yakoi |
now then again, anyone can fork the code and go by from there |
| 02:09 |
yakoi |
but then, what about the copyrights once you're there ? what if you want to use that forked extension for a new customer ? |
| 02:05 |
gentooma |

Now what if I am a 'sub-contractor' (what is the correct term for this in english anyway?) and the company I work for has specified that all code would be owned by their clients .... |
| 02:11 |
gentooma |
yakoi: using the gpl the forks have to use that too - if the costumer doesn't want to use that licence I usually turn them down - I'm quite idiological :) |
| 02:11 |
yakoi |
Yeah, I hear your point, but then I bet you are self-employed |
| 02:12 |
gentooma |
yakoi: :) |
| 02:12 |
yakoi |
I'm not there yet |
| 02:12 |
yakoi |
unfortunately |
| 02:13 |
gentooma |
yakoi: but on the other hand what is your problem - if you are an employee you have to stick to the licence model your boss tells you |
| 02:14 |
yakoi |
that would be true in a large company |
| 02:14 |
gentooma |
yakoi: (I don't want to appear rude - it's just late here - sorry :) |
| 02:14 |
yakoi |
np, it's nice enough someone's here to answer |
| 02:14 |
gentooma |
yakoi: so please tell me your problem :) |

again ;) |
| 02:16 |

I am reading one more of those bs offers underpriced, under-evaluated promessed by a company under-skilled that needs us to make their ext. dev. in an unrealistic delay. I must present our answer tomorrow |
| 02:17 |
gentooma |
sounds nice ;) |
| 02:17 |
yakoi |
I bet it does! |
| 02:18 |
yakoi |
and they specified to their clients that he would be owner of all code, which makes absolutely no sens at all since ownership is about copyrights and copyrights are owned by Kasper, the community and anyone who wrote up the code. |
| 02:18 |
gentooma |
in that case I would retain all rights - the copyright etc ;) |
| 02:19 |
yakoi |
yeah, well force-sign the fact that they have no copyrights over all code they obtain. |
| 02:19 |
ries |
yakoi: they can only be owner of the code you write for them |
| 02:16 |
gentooma |

| 02:20 |

thx |
| 02:21 |
gentooma |
yakoi: so I would tell them you write the code for them - but retain the ownership / copyright on the code and that this is the usual practice even in open source terms ---> e,g, typo3 still belongs to kasper |
| 02:22 |
gentooma |
ries: or am I wrong? |
| 02:22 |

I'm not a law expert :/ btw |

| 02:22 |

yes |
| 02:22 |

and license is only about distribution |
| 02:22 |

that what I ment by ownership |
| 02:22 |
ries |
you can transfer copyright to the one you write it for... even in GPL |
| 02:23 |

That company can even sell the product... but since all code is GPL the must give teh source to there clients if teh client asks for it |
| 02:23 |

If it's an in-house product... then nobody can force them to give code away |
| 02:23 |
gentooma |

| 02:23 |

ofcourse not... |
| 02:24 |

I didn't follow the complete thread... |

| 02:25 |
ries |
you can...up untill the hour the code was under your name, you can do whatever you feel with it... |
| 02:25 |
yakoi |
ries: the problem is that my cie does .... 'sub-contracted' jobs |
| 02:26 |
ries |
after that hour when the copyright was transfered you cannot do something with teh code you wrote for them because you worked for them at that time |
| 02:26 |

if the company says you cannot release the code then basicly you cannot |
| 02:26 |
yakoi |
what if the cie does give you the right to release it ? |
| 02:27 |
ries |
yakoi: I am not sure in your situation... if you write teh code for somebody else and you get payed for it... |
| 02:27 |
ries |
then teh copyright is laying with the ppl that pay you for it... |
| 02:27 |
ries |
however the code will be still GPL incase you write extensions for typo3.. |
| 02:27 |
ries |
who is cie? |
| 02:27 |
yakoi |
cie = company |
| 02:27 |
yakoi |
corporation, client, organization |
| 02:28 |
ries |
depends a bit what you agree up-on... |
| 02:28 |
ries |
if you or teh compay you work for get's payed for the work you do... then basicly it does make sence to ask teh company you finally write for if you can release the code or not |
| 02:28 |

that, if I understand your queation correctly... |

but release is about license or copyrights ? |
| 02:33 |
gentooma |
both I'd say |
| 02:34 |

yakoi: license says something about releasing and copyrights |
| 02:34 |

copyrights says something about the owner |
| 02:30 |

yakoi: license says something about releasing and copyrights |
| 02:34 |

copyrights says something about the owner |
| 02:35 |
ries |
if you need to know how software can be released, then the license type needs to get knowsn |
| 02:35 |
yakoi |
ries: yes and it's the one who has copyrights (owner) that chooses which license goes |
| 02:35 |
gentooma |
if you release something under GPL - copyright is more or less unrelevant as you always can make a fork of the version you released under gpl - even if you aren't the copyright ownder |
| 02:35 |
ries |
I am by no means a lawyer..... so you now :) |
| 02:36 |
yakoi |
gentooma: and that fork is still copyright to the original author |
| 02:36 |
ries |
yakoi: The owner can pick the type of license... But only of the license the software connects to allows it |
| 02:36 |
ries |
That's why some licenses are not compatible |
| 02:36 |
ries |
For example all software that interfaces directly with typo3 MUST be licensed GPL |
| 02:36 |
ries |
a owner cannot change just pick a other type of license, but only compatible licences... |
| 02:37 |
ries |
I think only MIT is compatible with GPL, but I don't want to put my hand in the fire for iut... |
| 02:37 |
ries |
You can fork ofcourse... But the copyright is still to the origional owner,,, |
| 02:37 |
ries |
a owner can change the license if he want's to, but only after the date a decides to |
| 02:37 |
yakoi |
yes, I know, but I'm only talking about copyrights and ownership as this is what bugs me with those mentions on client offers where I read: "Source code will be owned by client" |
| 02:38 |
ries |
a owner cannot change a license that was released yesterday |
| 02:38 |
ries |
source code can be owned by the client which is perfectly legal to ask |
| 02:38 |
ries |
if you write a extension for typo3... then teh client is owner, but MUST be licenced under GPL |
| 02:39 |
gentooma |
ries: that is exactly the point wanted to express above |
| 02:39 |
yakoi |
if I write code for client X, who's the default owner, client X or my organisation ? |

| 02:40 |
gentooma |
yakoi: usually your company - unless otherwise stated in the contract |
| 02:40 |
yakoi |
well thx to both of you guys, it's allready more organised, I know I'll be up for a 'fight' tomorrow |
| 02:41 |
ries |
yakoi: bottom line.... if it's an extension for typo3 the license MUST be GPL |
| 02:41 |
gentooma |
yakoi: but as we both said - using gpl which is a must - it doesn't really matter --- if your costumer decides to change the licence you still can refer to the old version |
| 02:42 |
ries |
and the owner of the software can be per contract which is 1) You 2) the company YOU work for 3) The companies client |
| 02:42 |
ries |
one of these 3 will be owner |
| 02:42 |
yakoi |
so an owner that released version 0.6 of ext_something on the 30.08.2007, it will never change license for this version from then on |
| 02:42 |
ries |
for example |
| 02:42 |
ries |
of version 5.99 is licenced under GPL with the copyright yakoi |
| 02:42 |
yakoi |
and then I can reuse that code , still copyrighted to client x and gpl, forever |
| 02:43 |
ries |
then version 6.01 can be licenced under GPL with teh owner companyX |
| 02:43 |
ries |
but version 5.99 can NEVER be changed ownership... |
| 02:43 |
yakoi |
ok, so both license and copyright persists |
| 02:44 |
ries |
Yup... |
| 02:44 |
gentooma |
I'd agree with ries |
| 02:44 |
ries |
in case of GPL and typo3 it means that extensions can never change license type because GPL is kinda strict in that |
| 02:44 |
yakoi |
and since the new code wasnt written by original author, the original author wont be able to change the license on that code from then on |
| 02:44 |
yakoi |
so it's like frozen forever |
| 02:44 |
ries |
yup... |
| 02:40 |
gentooma |
yakoi: usually your company - unless otherwise stated in the contract |

| 02:45 |
yakoi |
gentooma: , ries, thx alot |
| 02:45 |
yakoi |
my thoughts are more organized |
| 02:45 |
ries |
so GPL protects itslef against theft |
| 02:45 |
yakoi |
yes |
| 02:45 |
yakoi |
nice |
| 02:45 |
ries |
so when 12 persons write code in GPL |
| 02:45 |
ries |
then one person..or a unknown person can never steal the code and re-license code in the past |
| 02:46 |
ries |
under some conditions teh complete code can be relicenced... but the old code will always be teh old license |
| 02:46 |
ries |
that's why forking is allowed by law |
| 02:47 |
ries |
The company that want's to own the copyright must have the GPL license in place... |
| 02:47 |
ries |
they are allowed to sell the software you wrote |
| 02:47 |
ries |
as many times if they want... GPL doesn't forbid selling software |
| 02:48 |
ries |
for example I can sell TYPO3 (as GPL) to a company on CD... |
| 02:48 |
ries |
However they cannot own copyright on it... and the code will stay GPL |
| 02:48 |
yakoi |
even if it's a modified T3 version |
| 02:48 |
ries |
when the company sell the software you wrote to me |
| 02:48 |
ries |
they are obligated to give me the source code because all code is GPL.. |
| 02:48 |
ries |
even if it's a modified version of GPL.... |
| 02:49 |
ries |
well.. they are obligated to give it when I ask for it |
| 02:49 |
ries |
they don't have to give it right away.. |
| 02:49 |
yakoi |
ok, if you are my client |
| 02:49 |
ries |
that's why big companies don't always liek GPL a lot |
| 02:49 |
yakoi |
I code for you and give you the copyrights |
| 02:49 |
yakoi |
so code copyrighted ries and licensed GPL |
| 02:49 |
ries |
yup |
| 02:49 |
yakoi |
you decide not to distribute it |
| 02:49 |
yakoi |
so I cannot fork it |
| 02:49 |
yakoi |
right ? |
| 02:45 |
yakoi |
gentooma: , ries, thx alot |
| 02:45 |
yakoi |
my thoughts are more organized |
| 02:45 |
ries |
so GPL protects itslef against theft |
| 02:45 |
yakoi |
yes |
| 02:45 |
yakoi |
nice |
| 02:45 |
ries |
so when 12 persons write code in GPL |
| 02:45 |
ries |
then one person..or a unknown person can never steal the code and re-license code in the past |
| 02:46 |
ries |
under some conditions teh complete code can be relicenced... but the old code will always be teh old license |
| 02:46 |
ries |
that's why forking is allowed by law |
| 02:47 |
ries |
The company that want's to own the copyright must have the GPL license in place... |
| 02:47 |
ries |
they are allowed to sell the software you wrote |
| 02:47 |
ries |
as many times if they want... GPL doesn't forbid selling software |
| 02:48 |
ries |
for example I can sell TYPO3 (as GPL) to a company on CD... |
| 02:48 |
ries |
However they cannot own copyright on it... and the code will stay GPL |
| 02:48 |
yakoi |
even if it's a modified T3 version |
| 02:48 |
ries |
when the company sell the software you wrote to me |
| 02:48 |
ries |
they are obligated to give me the source code because all code is GPL.. |
| 02:48 |
ries |
even if it's a modified version of GPL.... |
| 02:49 |
ries |
well.. they are obligated to give it when I ask for it |
| 02:49 |
ries |
they don't have to give it right away.. |
| 02:49 |
yakoi |
ok, if you are my client |
| 02:49 |
ries |
that's why big companies don't always liek GPL a lot |
| 02:49 |
yakoi |
I code for you and give you the copyrights |
| 02:49 |
yakoi |
so code copyrighted ries and licensed GPL |
| 02:49 |
ries |
yup |
| 02:49 |
yakoi |
you decide not to distribute it |
| 02:49 |
yakoi |
so I cannot fork it |
| 02:49 |
yakoi |
right ? |
| 02:50 |
ries |
if you write it from scratch... it means the code is mine, however the license IS GPL |
| 02:50 |
ries |
But in the contract I can ask you not to release it, whish is legal |
| 02:50 |
yakoi |
yes |
| 02:50 |
ries |
if I then change your software |
| 02:50 |
ries |
and you buy it |
| 02:50 |
ries |
I am obligated to give you the source code when you ask for it... |
| 02:51 |
ries |
GPL != Open Source |
| 02:51 |
yakoi |
hmm |
| 02:51 |
yakoi |
but if you don't distribute your code |
| 02:51 |
yakoi |
I can never re-use it, fork it, modify it |
| 02:52 |
yakoi |
even if it sits on my computer |
| 02:52 |
ries |
not per contract... |
| 02:52 |
yakoi |
ok |
| 02:52 |
ries |
because it's my software, not yours |
| 02:52 |
ries |
even though it's GPL |
| 02:52 |
ries |
it's best to make that clear during contract time to avoid problems later on |
| 02:52 |
yakoi |
you as a developper, how often do you sign to give away rights to client? |
| 02:53 |
yakoi |
how common of a thing is this? |
| 02:53 |
ries |
yakoi: a couple of times... |
| 02:53 |
ries |
it's quite common |
| 02:53 |
yakoi |
when the code turns around the buisness logic I suppose |
| 02:54 |
ries |
For my feeling as a developer I am not doing it because I cannot be trusted as an developer anymore |
| 02:54 |
yakoi |
why not ? |
| 02:54 |
ries |
if I feel that some code can be usefull for teh community, for example a PDF lib I am writing |
| 02:54 |
ries |
then I will ask teh client of I can release it... |
| 02:54 |
yakoi |
ok |
| 02:50 |
ries |

| 02:54 |
yakoi |
ok |
| 02:55 |
ries |
yakoi: I work for a couple of big companies... and it will ruin my reputation as a developer |
| 02:55 |
ries |
also, often my code is so specific it doesn't work for others |
| 02:55 |
yakoi |
so you generally do not re-use ? |
| 02:55 |
ries |
My own rule is : The company who hires me is owner of the software... unless I ask for it |
| 02:56 |
yakoi |
ok |
| 02:56 |
yakoi |
well that's also how I see it |
| 02:56 |
ries |
Ofcourse I re-use functions and bit's and pieces... But for me that falls under experiance... |
| 02:56 |
gentooma |
yakoi: same here - I usually release it but according to the download numbers my exts are too specific :) |
| 02:56 |
yakoi |
but it goes a bit further. It's about the pertinance of a company to stipulate on a contract even if it was not specifically required by client that all code written for them would be owned by them |
| 02:56 |
ries |
it's hard to ask a developer not to copy a old function and re-write it... |
| 02:57 |
yakoi |
of course |
| 02:57 |
yakoi |
gentooma: what's your own favorite released ext on ter ? |
| 02:58 |
ries |
yakoi: if the company didn't specially ask for the copy right owner... then I hope that the company you work for put's something like that in a standard contact... |
| 02:59 |
yakoi |
ries: (I hope that the company you work for put's something like that in a standard contact) you mean to 'specify ownership of the client' ? |
| 02:59 |
ries |
well.. |
| 02:59 |
ries |
normally if two companie agree on something |
| 02:59 |
ries |
there is a software contract |
| 02:59 |
yakoi |
exactly |
| 02:59 |
yakoi |
this is where I am now |
| 02:59 |
ries |
under normal conditions a software company would put in there that they own the software and they sell a license |
| 02:59 |

and the contracts that where signed |
| 03:00 |
yakoi |
the contract isn't signed |
| 03:00 |
yakoi |
we're at the part of proposing |
| 03:01 |
yakoi |
on a bid that our client made to his client |
| 03:01 |
yakoi |
where he specified on the paper he gave to his client that all source code was owned by his client (literally). So I needed more arguments for tomorrow |
| 03:02 |
yakoi |
since I'm a kid in the arena and they won't take me too seriously |
| 03:02 |
ries |
what argument are you looking for? |

yakoi: the channel is logged :) |

| 03:05 |
yakoi |
the company hireing us presented it like this: do it so it cost as less as possible, reusing all the extensions you can to match a certain price-range |
| 03:05 |
ries |
they can.... But they cannot claim copyright of the code before a specific date (when projects starts properly) |
| 03:06 |
ries |
so you will keep on heaving the copyright before contract date |
| 03:06 |
ries |
and the company will get copyright after teh contracts date |
| 03:06 |
ries |
if they want to have copyrihght of the complete code then let them pay more :) |
| 03:08 |
yakoi |
yes, thanks for that but it goes even further |
| 03:09 |
yakoi |
how do you manage multiple copyrights on a same source-code ? |
| 03:09 |
yakoi |
only by specifying multiple copyrights in the file headers? |

| 03:10 |

depends |
| 03:11 |
ries |
as a curtsey , normally you can share copyrights |
| 03:11 |
ries |
so if you write code |
| 03:11 |
ries |
and I copy it and use it in my project and change it, I simply add a second copyright |
| 03:11 |
ries |
in your specific case teh client want's to have complete copyright |
| 03:11 |
ries |
then you can do see, since he is paying for it |
| 03:11 |
ries |
you can do so.. |
| 03:14 |
yakoi |
ok thanks |
| 03:14 |
yakoi |
but he's not paying enough for me to do so |

| 03:16 |

to give you a not so good example |
| 03:16 |
ries |
1)http://typo3.org/extensions/repository/view/lib/0.0.19/info/class.tx_lib_smartyView.php/ |
| 03:16 |
ries |
2)http://typo3.org/extensions/repository/view/lib/0.0.24/info/class.tx_lib_smartyView.php/ |
| 03:16 |
ries |
The copyright of that file was changed |
| 03:17 |
ries |
Now I know Elmar and steffen (I actually wrote 90% of the code at release 0.0.24) |
| 03:17 |
ries |
so I don't care much |
| 03:17 |
ries |
Normally you would place a thanks, or a copy right by Steffen aswell... |
| 03:17 |
ries |
But there you can see the copyright has changed, but license is teh same |
| 03:18 |
ries |
yakoi: apparently teh client is pushing you... Just don't admit to it :) |
| 03:18 |
ries |
I am not sure what price we are talkign about, hourly rate etc... |

I am using it myself using lib / div... |

but as far as I know I am teh only one :) |
| 03:22 |

I just like smarty much better then php templating... |
| 03:23 |

is lib/div stable enough for prod. use now ? |

I hesitated for my last ext. |

my own function to create thubnails : dax77 |
| 05:56 |
jade |
how can it be load slow only on first time |
| 05:59 |
dax77 |
jade: if you are creating the thumbnails yourself eachtime, its your own fault. So I guess you don't cache the page, which would generate the thumbnail only the first time |

jade |
how can i cache that specific page |
| 06:01 |
jade |
actually its a php script which i have callled using PHP_SCRIPT in the template record |
| 06:02 |
jade |
dax77: can i cache it |
| 06:02 |
dax77 |
jade: outch, PHP_SCRIPT again. why can't people stop using that? |
| 06:02 |
jade |
:) |
| 06:02 |
jade |
coz its php friendly |
| 06:02 |
jade |
and typoscript is a bit complex |
| 06:03 |
jade |
i guess so |
| 06:03 |
dax77 |
no, people just don't know how to setup a basic extension. typoscript has nothing to do with that |
| 06:04 |

so u tell me how do improve my this issue |

if you have a function main($content, $conf) which expects a string in return and everything you do inside doesn't matter, could you include your script? |
| 06:06 |
jade |
hmmmm.. |
| 06:07 |
jade |
ok if i use that code in this function which is an extension |
| 06:08 |
jade |
even though still i will be using my own function to generate images |
| 06:08 |

will the page get cached? |

yes |

| 06:10 |
dax77 |
you can always turn cache off ;) |

but that will only for that specific page |

not for whole |
| 06:11 |

jade |
one more thing |
| 06:12 |
dax77 |
which is your case: PHP_SCRIPT gets a no cache |
| 06:13 |
jade |
but the problem in extension that every thing must be in the $content variable |
| 06:13 |
jade |
right? |
| 06:13 |
jade |
i have to use embedded code |
| 06:13 |
jade |
e.g. javascript also embedeed |
| 06:13 |
jade |
plus taking care of single quotes double quotes :S |
| 06:13 |

its nothing more than y string |

yes, you have to take care of quets |

dax77 |
jade: question again: why do ou need a global var? |
| 07:25 |
dax77 |
ou = you |
| 07:26 |
jade |
i want to add some info in it |
| 07:26 |
jade |
e.g. admin email or some other stuff |
| 07:26 |
dax77 |
and what is everywhere? |
| 07:26 |
jade |
that will be globally available so that i access it everywhere |
| 07:27 |
jade |
and i have to change it only once at one place |
| 07:27 |
dax77 |
thats TS ;) |
| 07:27 |
jade |
can i use the localconf.php for that purpose??? |
| 07:28 |
dax77 |
I guess you could - but thats.....a really bad bad way |
| 07:28 |
jade |
so whats the good way then? |
| 07:28 |
dax77 |
typoscript |
| 07:29 |
jade |
i mean can u give me an example |
| 07:29 |
jade |
e.g i want a variable admin_email |
| 07:29 |
jade |
i want it global |
| 07:25 |

| 07:30 |
dax77 |
well, you can store extension related vars like this: plugin.extensionName.admin_email = whatever |
| 07:30 |
dax77 |
jade: global is a large are, where exactly will you need it? |
| 07:31 |
jade |
everywhere :) |
| 07:31 |
just2b |
dax: everywhere :D :D |
| 07:31 |
just2b |
ROFL |
| 07:31 |
jade |
yah just2b is right |
| 07:31 |
jade |
:) |
| 07:31 |
just2b |
you just need it in your own extension, i guess |
| 07:31 |
just2b |
everywhere was just a joke |
| 07:31 |
m4rtijn |
hi |
| 07:31 |
jade |
what if i need it in every extension then? |
| 07:32 |
just2b |
you wanna modifiy every extension? |
| 07:32 |
dax77 |
lol |
| 07:32 |
jade |
thats what i m asking |
| 07:32 |
just2b |
could still take a own table |
| 07:32 |
just2b |
or in TS still possible |
| 07:32 |
jade |
yah thats what i m asking |
| 07:32 |
jade |
i want to use it in every extension |
| 07:32 |
dax77 |
jade: if another extension makes use of an email - configured in TS - you can assign it in ts |
| 07:33 |
dax77 |
myextension.email < {$gobal_email} |
| 07:33 |
m4rtijn |
hmm, is the kickstarter working ok with typo 4.1.2 ? |
| 07:33 |
dax77 |
in constants you define global_email = whatever |
| 07:33 |
m4rtijn |
seems a bit buggy.. or is it me |
| 07:30 |
dax77 |
well, you can store extension related vars like this: plugin.extensionName.admin_email = whatever |

Strud |
hi there. my install of typo3 (3.81) is outputting an extra blank line on top of the page |
| 07:49 |
Strud |
so it's breaking the xml feeds... I can still see the pages normally as html |
| 07:49 |
Strud |
but there is that extra line, and I don't have a clue where it can come from... |
| 07:49 |
Strud |
I figured it can't be from a template, since creating a new root level page without a template generates the well-known error, but still with the extra line on top |
| 07:49 |
Strud |
any ideas? |

Layna |
Good morning, everybody. I have a problem with my print-view. The link is correct (index.php?id=34&type=98), but for some reason the HTML-template is not being used. I basically just took the code from the section "TypoScript Setup der Druckansicht" on this page: http://www.admin-wissen.de/tutorials/eigene-tutorials/webentwicklung/typo3-workshop/fortgeschrittene-themen/typo3-usability/druckansicht-mit-typo3/ |

Jigal |
Layna: I haven't used the print-view with type=98 myself. I prefer making a CSS template for medium="print" where a lot of elements are hidden by display: none; No extra hits on the server, supported by most browsers and visitors can use the print command in their browser. |
| 09:33 |
s-andersen |
I support Jigal's solution |

Hmmm... ok, now that you mention it, that makes sense ^^ |

than you can configure mymarker with the available options for tt_address: http://typo3.org/documentation/document-library/extension-manuals/tt_address/2.1.0/view/1/4/#id3499822 |

dax77: ok, when does load_tca get called? and what about ext_localconf.php? |
| 11:33 |
julie |
hey guys, i m using prototype.js to use ajax. im calling a javascript function |
| 11:33 |
julie |
now the problem is that the javascript function needs to call the plugin main method |
| 11:33 |
julie |
how do i do that? |
| 11:34 |
dax77 |
Fanty: actually its t3lib_div::loadTCA, and it gets called when you want to edit a record. ext_localconf..... hmm, don't know |
| 11:34 |
julie |
cause when i do that it returns error |
| 11:34 |
julie |
Notice: Use of undefined constant PATH_tslib - assumed 'PATH_tslib' in F:\Projects\Tom_Husler\typo3conf\ext\user_projects\pi1\class.user_projects_pi1.php on line 25 |
| 11:35 |
dax77 |
julie: than define it ;) |
| 11:35 |
dax77 |
if (!defined('PATH_tslib')) define('PATH_tslib', t3lib_extMgm::extPath('cms').'tslib/'); |
| 11:36 |
julie |
no actually i think this error is occurring coz i m calling this pluign file using javascript |
| 11:36 |
Fanty |
dax77: if I type asdhfjkdf in my ext_tables.php file for the extension and clears the typo3conf cache *no* pages work |
| 11:36 |
anand |
dax77:have any idea? |
| 11:37 |
Fanty |
dax77: seems very much like ext_tables.php always is executed |
| 11:37 |
dax77 |
julie: eID way? |
| 11:37 |
julie |
eID??? |
| 11:37 |
dax77 |
anand: nope. I copied my working solution. since I can't have a look at yours, you have to find out yourself :( |
| 11:38 |
dax77 |
julie: well, how do you call your plugin? |
| 11:38 |
julie |

| 11:38 |
julie |
i want to call my plugin main method using javascript using ajax |
| 11:39 |
dax77 |
Fanty: I think it is only executed the first time, but I may mistaken |
| 11:39 |
just2b |
julie or with xml |
| 11:39 |
julie |
no the plugin will only return html |
| 11:39 |
dax77 |
julie: google for "typo3 + eid" ;) |
| 11:39 |
julie |
i m using Ajax.updater of protype.js file |
| 11:39 |
Fanty |
I think all ext_tables.php files are compiled into a temp_CACHED_xxxxxx_ext_tables.php file in typo3conf/ which is run on *all* page hits |

dax77 |

ries: is the eID is the url which will connect the database for me? |
| 12:29 |
ries |
julie: you need to add something like this to your ext_localconf.php : $TYPO3_CONF_VARS['FE']['eID_include']['abs_sit'] = 'EXT:abs_galleries/eid/send_image_thumb.php'; |
| 12:30 |
ries |
abs_sit is the name of the eID, and the value is the path to the script |
| 12:30 |
ries |
so it can be called like : index.php?eID=abs_sit¶m1=1¶m2=2......... |
| 12:30 |
ries |
julie: got that? |
| 12:30 |

waht is best ext for a print-page to get url + &type=98 |
| 12:31 |
m4rtijn |
I just studied the "extension kickstarter tut" quite thuroughfully.. but I have a small problem.. instead of placing all my records on the same page as my plugin is inserted.. I would like to have folders for my categories.. But as soon as I pick "select records from storage pid" and not "current page" I lose the functionality to choose which categories to show on the frontend.. :( |
| 12:31 |
ries |
just2b: a printer??? :D |

just2b |
oh come on ries ;) |

just2b: I never make print pages.... but just with CSS.... |
| 12:32 |
just2b |
but if customer wants it? |
| 12:32 |
ries |
just2b: themm him using CSS is better... then peopel just have to press the print button and off it goes... |
| 12:33 |
ries |
I did had one client that REALLY wanted to have blue backgrounds on the print.... impossible to do so |
| 12:33 |

print button in browser ? |

julie |
ries: i have only localconf.php file in my folder |
| 12:33 |
julie |
should i add this line in it? |
| 12:33 |
ries |
julie: in your extension you need to create an ext_localconf.php file |
| 12:34 |
ries |
just2b: there is really no need to make a a link to a page type for print purposes since you can control it with CSS.. |
| 12:34 |
ries |
you can make a print button... for users to access the print function of the browser... but CSS can control how it will look on paper |
| 12:30 |
ries |

hi, in an extension there is a function which returns something like (for emails) : return '<a href="mailto:'.$data[$fN].'">'.$data[$fN].'</a>'; So, my question is: how do I replace this line in the function to use typolink function to return the email value? Thanks |

bedlamhotel: do you know if catmenu can work with latest in tt_news? |
| 18:53 |

I did manage to get it working with list |
| 18:54 |
bedlamhotel |
dokma: no idea. Generally the stuff in tt_news' manual does work ok--I'm not a big fan of that extension, but it usually does what it says it does... |
| 18:54 |
dokma |
bedlamhotel: yeah. I got most of it doing what it should |

It's very 'old school' TS in that extension...hard to use. |
