what for a question... |
| 00:15 |
vince2 |
I keep seeing comments in the docs like "For more details please see [4]". How do you see [4]? It is not a link and there are not footnotes or anything on the page for it. |
| 00:19 |
IngoRenner |
good night guys! |
| 00:21 |
void |
vince2: give us a link |
| 00:23 |
vince2 |
Example: http://typo3.org/development/articles/release-notes-40/page/2/ |
| 00:24 |
void |
vince2: http://typo3.org/development/articles/release-notes-40/page/5/ |
| 00:25 |
chefan |
drindt: a valid one |
| 00:26 |
chefan |
with loads of different answering possibilities |
| 00:26 |
drindt |
chefan: i haven't asked for anything but thanks for messaging me ;) |
| 00:26 |
chefan |
you're welcome :) |
| 00:32 |
vince2 |
void: hmm.. so the number is an id number you replace at the end of the url. I tried it. went to [4], but the subject on that page is *API*. It said goto *[4]* for details on typoscript changes, but no mention of typoscript on .../4. |
| 00:33 |
void |
[4] TSref: http://typo3.org/documentation/document-library/references/doc_core_tsref/current/view/ |
| 00:33 |
void |
what is not clear? |
| 00:34 |
void |
[4] is a footnote of multiple-pages document... |
| 00:35 |
vince2 |
When I go to http://typo3.org/development/articles/release-notes-40/page/4 it is subject *API*. |
| 00:35 |
void |
why do you went to page 4? |
| 00:36 |
void |
4 is not a page number |
| 00:37 |
vince2 |
Oh. I thought when you said, http://typo3.org/development/articles/release-notes-40/page/5/, that was an example based on whatever the number was. |
| 00:39 |
vince2 |
So you have to navigate to the last page of the article to get to the foot notes. |
| 00:39 |
void |
yes =) |
| 00:41 |
vince2 |
The see [#] for more details should be links to take you there. There was no way for me to know that from reading the page. |
| 00:42 |
vince2 |
Also, is there any way to navigate directly to the footnotes? If it is a 10 or 20 page article, it takes an awful long time to get there clicking on the next page link for each page. |
| 00:44 |
void |
vince2: i think such article is rare case for typo3.org |
| 00:44 |
void |
other large articles (extension documentation, for example) have table of contents |
| 00:46 |
vince2 |
void: Ok. Well I appreciate your clarification. At least I know what they are now :-). |
| 00:47 |
void |
np) |

Maybe Kasper or the page authors will stumble across a log of this IRC and realize those numbers should be links taking you directory to the page :-). |

I mean "directly to the page" |

i have a problem |

i have some FCEs for two columns thre columns an so on |
| 00:54 |
uschi |
Via $TCA I reactivated the display of the normal header |
| 00:55 |
uschi |
but in order to get my inner CEs displayed I have to set the language of the grid FCE to all |
| 00:55 |
uschi |
thus being unable to translate the header of the grid FCE ... |
| 00:55 |
uschi |
do you know what I mean? |
| 00:56 |
uschi |
or what i am talking about? |
| 00:56 |
uschi |
I wanted that my users have to insert the header twice |

a desparate uschi ... |

I hate TV and I love it |

lil' question..is there a typo3 forum or just the blog and mailinglist? |

vince2 |
They have what looks like a forum at support.typo3.org, but it seems to be a mirror of the mailing lists. |

ok thx |

Wow. I just watched the king of typo3 video about Kasper stepping down has head of development. I didn't know about that until tonight. |

vince2: yep, koomi was quite concerned about the "posing as king" part :) |

Heh. I thought it was kind of cute :-) |

what is the best simple file upload plugin for typo3? i see quite a few in the extension repo. |

FloLeBlanc |
hi denyerec |
| 11:24 |
Rapp |
how do i use the frontend login? are there any examples available? |
| 11:24 |
Rapp |
e.g. how do i use it to secure certain pages, and how do i add users? |
| 11:26 |
FloLeBlanc |
Rapp: don't know where a manual is available, for a quick first start: you can secure certain pages by clicking on page - page in the navtree - edit page properties - and at the bottom there is "access" (this is for Frontend users) |
| 11:27 |
Rapp |
FloLeBlanc, thanks. |
| 11:27 |
FloLeBlanc |
rapp: you're welcome |
| 11:29 |
FloLeBlanc |
rapp: as for the users. I use sr_feuser_register, in this extension you define a sysfolder where the frontend user records are stored, they are accessed by the "list" view afterwards (you could create new users there too) - I guess it will work similar in other FE-login extensions |
| 11:29 |
Rapp |
hm, ok. |
| 11:44 |
Rapp |
one more thing -- does the extension 'Front End User Admin' still exist? |
| 11:44 |
Rapp |
i saw it referenced in some tutorial, but cannot find it |
| 11:49 |
FloLeBlanc |
Rapp: yes it does, I had to edit it for my own needs however, it's rather limited |
| 11:50 |
FloLeBlanc |
http://typo3.org/extensions/repository/view/feuser_admin/1.0.2/ |
| 11:50 |
Rapp |
well, i installed the sr_feuser_register extension now. it might do what i need :) |
| 11:50 |
FloLeBlanc |
Rapp: careful, sr_feuser_register is extremely hard to manage/template |
| 11:50 |
FloLeBlanc |
:) |
| 11:50 |
Rapp |
*sigh* |
| 11:51 |
Rapp |
all i want is a SIMPLE way to authenticate a handful of manually added users... |
| 11:51 |
Rapp |
for a handful of pages |
| 11:51 |
FloLeBlanc |
rapp: don't the current versions of t3 do that by default? |
| 11:51 |
Rapp |
does it? how? |
| 11:51 |
Rapp |
i did not even find out how to add frontend users? |
| 11:52 |
Rapp |
i find this all very poorly documented :-( |
| 11:52 |
chefan |
it is atm |
| 11:52 |
chefan |
create a system folder |
| 11:53 |
Rapp |
yes? |
| 11:53 |
chefan |
and drop a login box on your front page, referencing that system folder |
| 11:53 |
Rapp |
ok... |
| 11:54 |
chefan |
just a sec |
| 11:54 |
Rapp |
what does "referencing that system folder" mean> |
| 11:54 |
Rapp |
? |
| 11:55 |
Denyerec |
I am wondiering if this is "Against" the beliefs of Typo3 : http://typo3.org/documentation/document-library/extension-manuals/msm_self_brand_typo3/1.0.1/view/1/1/#id3693685 |
| 11:56 |
chefan |
beliefs? |
| 11:58 |
Rapp |
chefan, how do i proceed with the login? |
| 11:59 |
chefan |
ok, you need a system folder named "FEUsers |
| 11:59 |
Rapp |
folder? |
| 11:59 |
Rapp |
in the fileadmin? |
| 11:59 |
chefan |
you just add it like any other page in the page tree |
| 11:59 |
chefan |
just as type "system folder" |
| 11:59 |
Rapp |
ohhhh |
| 12:00 |
chefan |
in that system folder you can add records of front end users |
| 12:00 |
Rapp |
hm, i do not get the option of a "system folder"... |
| 12:01 |
Rapp |
oh wait! |
| 12:01 |
Rapp |
i was wrong. it is AFTER i select that its a page. |
| 12:02 |
chefan |
in list view you should see the users you added then |
| 12:02 |
chefan |
fe groups belong there as well |
| 12:03 |
chefan |
atm i am not sure if there is something else to do in the config of the login box |
| 12:03 |
chefan |
but afaik no |
| 12:03 |
Rapp |
chefan, ok, thanks! |
| 12:03 |
chefan |
iirc it is connected to the name of the system folder |
| 12:03 |
chefan |
de nada |
| 12:04 |
chefan |
administering typo3 is a major pain in the ass for me too ;) |
| 12:06 |
chefan |
Denyerec: why would that be against any belief? |
| 12:06 |
chefan |
GPL is a license, not a religion, and as long as the license boilerplate is included |
| 12:07 |
Denyerec |
thats why I said "belief" and not "rules" |
| 12:07 |
chefan |
the important thing is the open source part, that doesn't limit itself to typo3 |
| 12:07 |
chefan |
for instance |
| 12:07 |
chefan |
personally i don't like typo3 very much, but i have to work with it |
| 12:08 |
chefan |
(makes me the natural born security auditor in a way) :D |
| 12:08 |
chefan |
anyway, i sharr my knowledge with others |
| 12:09 |
Denyerec |
I just feel, that if someone gives something so incredible away for free and asks only for recognition, that hiding all traces of the originator is a little.... cheeky |
| 12:09 |
chefan |
it still is all over the source code |
| 12:10 |
chefan |
besides, i am sure the authors earned a shitload of money with the product |
| 12:10 |
chefan |
just because something is open source, it doesn't mean you can't use it to make a living |
| 12:10 |
Denyerec |
No reason to disrespect them, though. |
| 12:10 |
chefan |
that has nothing to do with disrespect |
| 12:11 |
chefan |
if i have an intranet for instance, i want that to have a little bit of corporate identity too |
| 12:11 |
chefan |
the users have to learn to use the backend anyway |
| 12:12 |
chefan |
so they will be well aware what they are dealing with |
| 12:12 |
chefan |
besides that, not telling my be-users which product they are using in context of open source would be incredibly stupid :) |
| 12:13 |
Rapp |
one more question: i have added the login box, the sysfolder, and as admin i can see and set the access to the usergroup i added. but ordinary BE users cannot see this. where can i grant this? |
| 12:13 |
Denyerec |
I suppose it comes down to how you do it chefan |
| 12:14 |
Denyerec |
if you say "This is Typo3, it's free and all that, and by the way I put your company logo in the corner" then it's fine. |
| 12:14 |
Denyerec |
But I KNOW there are people out there who will attempt to charge for, and make out like the wrote the whole damn thing. |
| 12:15 |
FloLeBlanc |
denyerec: really? lol I wouldn't dare to say something like that even if I was such a criminal :) |
| 12:15 |
Denyerec |
You can BET there are people out there doing it. |
| 12:18 |
chefan |
Denyerec: that would be the paramount of stupidity |
| 12:18 |
chefan |
1. you are selling a script |
| 12:18 |
Denyerec |
It would be. |
| 12:18 |
chefan |
source code |
| 12:18 |
Denyerec |
But some people are paramountly stupid. |
| 12:18 |
Denyerec |
And you don't necessarily need to give the client server access if you're selling it as a hosted service. |
| 12:19 |
chefan |
it is absolutely pointless to try to SELL that |
| 12:19 |
chefan |
Denyerec: i can sell typo3 running sites to clients without even allowing them access to the backend |
| 12:20 |
chefan |
the point is: 1. there is nothing wrong with gaining money with open source |
| 12:21 |
chefan |
you have to see it that way, you are not selling someone elses work (in open source the work is more or less a community achievement anyway, the personal credits are in the copyright note) |
| 12:22 |
chefan |
you are selling your expertise in deployment and maintenance |
| 12:22 |
chefan |
it's a form of consulting |
| 12:23 |
chefan |
for any single professional, i would think it takes at least a year of learning to "sell" a safe, functional platform based on typo3 |
| 12:24 |
chefan |
and the idea of putting a different logo there was not putting the logo of the vendor, but rather that of the client |
| 12:24 |
chefan |
at least that is how i understood the comment |
| 12:24 |
Denyerec |
I can see it from that angle. Just get the feelin that some unscrupulous sorts would capitalise on it. |
| 12:24 |
Denyerec |
I even KNOW some people who are that way inclined. |
| 12:26 |
Denyerec |
Don't get me wrong, I see all your points. I just have my suspicions about how some people might try and use that. |
| 12:28 |
chefan |
Denyerec: unscrupulous sorts capitalise on anything |
| 12:29 |
Denyerec |
True, but it won't stop me passing comment on it :) |
| 12:29 |
chefan |
anyone unscrupulous to sell typo3 would have already passed the code to china and got the logo changed in order to sell it way before someon in the open source community offers solution to that ;) |
| 12:30 |
chefan |
while you are maneuvering in anything open source, get over those considerations |
| 12:31 |
chefan |
if it's useful, do it, publish it |
| 12:31 |
FloLeBlanc |
can I insert a content element via TS? (f.e. mm_forum , latest posts)? |
| 12:31 |
Denyerec |
Hahaha |
| 12:31 |
Denyerec |
Err |
| 12:31 |
Denyerec |
Yeah you can flo |
| 12:31 |
Denyerec |
use the RECORD thing |
| 12:31 |
Denyerec |
snippets are on Typo3wizard |
| 12:31 |
Denyerec |
I think if you wanna grab a content element from the content table it's a CONTENT object |
| 12:31 |
Denyerec |
(Again snippets are on T3 wiz) |
| 12:32 |
FloLeBlanc |
denyerec: well I'm already able to insert a content element that is already present SOMEWHERE :) I wanted to know if I can create it via TS |
| 12:32 |
Denyerec |
Oohhhh |
| 12:32 |
chefan |
you can't prevent things from getting done anyway. Same moral catch oppenheimer or braun faced. well, about so. |
| 12:32 |
Denyerec |
you mean create the content element and stick it in the DB |
| 12:32 |
Denyerec |
rather than insert it onto a page... |
| 12:33 |
FloLeBlanc |
nah just do the "insert" of the content element via TS.. but I think that is not possible |
| 12:33 |
FloLeBlanc |
(I already have getLeft, getRight, getContent and getBorder used up on my startpage hehe) |
| 12:33 |
chefan |
like you have a page that automagically inserts a certain type of content by a set of rules? |
| 12:34 |
chefan |
hm? |
| 12:34 |
chefan |
you "used something up" in page generation? |
| 12:34 |
FloLeBlanc |
I use automaketemplate. If I want to paste the tt_news box in a specific div I use subparts.XXX < styles.content.getRight (if the content element is in the "right" part of my starpage) |
| 12:35 |
FloLeBlanc |
not I have the banner module in the "left" part, tt_news in the "normal" part, login_box in the "right" part and the toplogo in the "border" part of the content elements |
| 12:35 |
FloLeBlanc |
not = now |
| 12:38 |
FloLeBlanc |
is there something similar to styles.content.getRightGET2NDELEMENT , and so on? |
| 12:47 |
maholtz_ |
@flo: have an look at TSref CONTENT |
| 12:47 |
FloLeBlanc |
maholtz: ok thank you |
| 12:47 |
maholtz_ |
you can make your own styles.content.getXY |
| 12:47 |
FloLeBlanc |
oh.. nice |
| 12:48 |
maholtz_ |
and you can define: take 2 content element from page with id z |
| 12:48 |
maholtz_ |
2 == 2nd |
| 13:19 |
FloLeBlanc |
maholtz: I checked the tsref but how would I get "the 2nd" element? I can insert the content via a TS-sql query as far as I got that |
| 13:20 |
FloLeBlanc |
but the order in sql is always declared by the sort |
| 13:22 |
FloLeBlanc |
ah colpos determines the right/left orientation |
| 13:36 |
ndee |

ok, i have got my login running, using the new login box. now i have a file upload plugin on the same page. however, it uploads only to fileadmin/USERNAME and ignores my TS config on that page. i have added a config that tells it to put everything into fileadmin/upload/ and also raised the upload file size. |
| 13:44 |
Rapp |
why does the plugin ignore my config? |
| 13:44 |
Rapp |
the config is quite minimal: http://phpfi.com/301708 |
| 13:49 |
maholtz_ |
@flo: you can use CONTENT->select.max etc |
| 14:10 |
Denyerec |
So |

RealURL and 404's |
| 14:10 |
Denyerec |
does everyone resort to a custom script, or has anyoen managed to get it working out of the box? |
| 14:18 |
Rapp |
does anyone have a hint why my file upload does not work properly? i have attached some TSconfig code to the page containing the upload plugin (see http://phpfi.com/301708), but the code is being ignored. |
| 14:53 |
Denyerec |
Ah |
| 14:57 |
FloLeBlanc |
can anyone tell me why [loginUser=4] some TS [global] would not work? this is the ID that is listed when I hover over the usergroup isn't it? |
| 15:01 |
maholtz_ |
[usergroup != [loginUser] ;) |
| 15:01 |
FloLeBlanc |
aaaaah :) |
| 15:01 |
FloLeBlanc |
thank you |

Timoslav |
re |
| 15:50 |
ndee |
so, when I add pictures to a record and want to read them out in my frontend plugin, how would I do that? The pictures are stored somewhere in the fileadmin/media/... folder. |
| 15:52 |
ndee |
the thing is, the pictures can be in all different folders but in the database, only the filename is stored. |
| 15:52 |
maholtz_ |
do you use the dam? |
| 15:53 |
ndee |
yes |
| 15:54 |
maholtz_ |
ok, perhaps you should render the image with typoscript in your plugin |
| 15:54 |
ndee |
the problem is, I don't know what the path of the picture is. |
| 15:57 |
maholtz_ |
you do not need to know the path |
| 15:58 |
ndee |
maholtz_: http://www.ndee.ch/typo3/2006/10/23/output-pictures-the-easy-way/ <-- can I just give the file name and typo3 will find the file? |
| 15:59 |
maholtz_ |
wiki.typo3.org/De:TSref/IMAGE - the last example gives you the typoscript you need for dam |
| 16:00 |
ndee |
maholtz_: thanks a bunch :) |
| 16:00 |
ndee |
ah, but can I somehow use that also directly in my extension(php code)? |
| 16:02 |
maholtz_ |
i think so: $img["file."]['import.']['cObject'] = 'USER' ... and so on, |
| 16:03 |
ndee |
oh ok |
| 16:06 |
maholtz_ |
but maybe you should not use that direct in your extension, but insert it via typoscript configuration, than your extension should be able to work with and without the dam |
| 16:54 |

| 18:11 |
uschi |
the two divs inside serve a Container for normal CEs |
| 18:11 |
uschi |
I switched the normal headers on again for TV |
| 18:15 |
uschi |
and i cannot translate them for this two column element |
| 18:15 |
Denyerec |
you mean the standard headers |
| 18:15 |
Denyerec |
rather than your own custom ones |
| 18:15 |
uschi |
right |
| 18:15 |
uschi |
i do not have any custom ones |
| 18:15 |
Denyerec |
Ah |
| 18:15 |
Denyerec |
You said you switched the headers on again |
| 18:15 |
Denyerec |
so I presumed you'd been using something custom beforehand |
| 18:15 |
uschi |
right, the ordinary ones |
| 18:16 |
uschi |
because normally the headers coming from TV are never shown in FE |
| 18:16 |
Denyerec |
Really? I had trouble turning the damn things off. |
| 18:17 |
uschi |
and i have to set langDisable to 1 |
| 18:17 |
just2b |
uschi, hci woman ;) got a question g |
| 18:17 |
uschi |
and that is? |
| 18:17 |
just2b |
is there any ie png hack somehwere already? |
| 18:17 |
uschi |
sure |
| 18:17 |
Denyerec |
As an extension? |
| 18:17 |
Denyerec |
or in general ? |
| 18:17 |
Denyerec |
There's 101 general hacks, including .htc behaviours and directX filters, etc. |
| 18:17 |
just2b |
more something i could just include with a little code |
| 18:17 |
Denyerec |
Though all induce a pallette shift. |
| 18:18 |
Denyerec |
Which is freakin annoying. |
| 18:18 |
just2b |
would need it at the be lgin |
| 18:18 |
uschi |
it is |
| 18:18 |
just2b |
login |
| 18:18 |
Denyerec |
http://www.mongus.net/pngInfo/ |
| 18:18 |
Denyerec |
http://code.google.com/p/pnghack/ <- prototype one, you like moo so perhaps not a good ide.a |
| 18:19 |
Denyerec |
http://www.twinhelix.com/css/iepngfix/ |
| 18:19 |
uschi |
moo in be is a very bad idea because everything else is prototype |
| 18:19 |
Denyerec |
Ahh, BE. Well if the BE already uses proto, then maybe the proto solution is workable? |
| 18:22 |
just2b |
not really, i am sorry |
| 18:22 |
just2b |
be login > nothing included ;) |
| 18:23 |
just2b |
but whatever, it is business work ;) |
| 18:28 |
uschi |
Denyerec, you are right, the headers are always shown |
| 18:45 |
just2b |
anyone knows how I get the charset in the backend |
| 18:46 |
void |
just2b: you mean the value of forceCharset ? |
| 18:46 |
just2b |
yeah e.g. |
| 18:47 |
void |
just2b: $GLOBALS['TYPO3_CONF_VARS']['BE']['forceCharset'] |
| 18:47 |
just2b |
ah TYPO3_CONF_VARS['BE']['forceCharset'] yeah works too in be |
| 19:22 |
Nipsting |
anyone know how to tell typo3 to use an addition CSS class in content elements. More specifically I want to have a bottom element (small background image below the bodytext). Dont know if this makes any sense |
| 19:45 |
vince2 |
Hi everybody. I am thinking about buying 1 or 2 typo3 books. Anybody have an Idea which one is the most up to date with the best coverage of templavoila? |
| 19:51 |
Timoslav |
i know a german one |
| 19:51 |
Timoslav |
but i dunno if its available in english too |
| 19:52 |

Timoslav |
sorry wrong window o_O |
| 19:54 |
vince2 |
Timoslav: thanks. It has to be in english though. |
| 19:57 |
Timoslav |
what about this one? http://www.amazon.com/Building-Websites-TYPO3-Michael-Peacock/dp/1847191118/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1205175556&sr=8-1 |
| 19:58 |
Timoslav |
i think that one is reliable |
| 20:01 |
vince2 |
Yes, that is one of the ones I am considering. It has about the newest publication date, but I don't see any mention of templavoila in the book details on packtpub.com or amazon.com. |
| 20:38 |
vince2 |
Hmm... I found a pretty good review on typo3bloke.net of "Mastering TypoScript" by Daniel Koch that says templavoila is fairly well covered. That will probably be one of the books I buy. |

Phlogi_ |
what type do you choose for an extension that extents another extension? |
| 21:57 |
just2b |
you mean fe, be misc? |
| 22:21 |
nd__ |
I notized that it doesn't seem possible to use more than five pictures in one tt_news news-article. Anyone has any tipps on how to do that? |
| 22:24 |
just2b |
yes, but you wont like it |
| 22:25 |
void |
nd__: it's possible to override a part of TCA via TS config... |
| 22:28 |
Phlogi_ |
just2b: fe |
| 22:28 |
Phlogi_ |
yes |
| 22:29 |
Phlogi_ |
What file does typo3 ext managment read from my extension? I mean I'm wondering how to add my php file with the hooks to typo3... I did specify the hook in ext_localconf.php, but that does not have any effect |
| 22:33 |
Phlogi_ |
it looks like the ext_localconf file is not read by typo3, do I need to "define" that somewhere else? Because kickstarted did not create that file |
| 22:34 |
Phlogi_ |
oh now I could make that it is read... |
| 22:37 |
just2b |
just delete the conf cache |
| 22:38 |
Phlogi_ |
just2b: thanks, it seems to work I'm in the hook now :) |
| 22:49 |
nd |
void: tca? |
| 22:50 |
void |
nd: $TCA, table configuration array... |
| 22:50 |
nd |
well, will look that up |
| 22:50 |
nd |
thanks |
| 23:36 |
ndee |
hey there, anyone worked with userDisplayCatmenuHook before in tt_news? |
| 23:37 |
ndee |
somehow in the manual, there is just a hint but I don't know how to call that hook. |
| 23:37 |
just2b |
i guess so |
| 23:37 |
just2b |
take a look at the res dir |
| 23:37 |
ndee |
ah |
| 23:38 |
ndee |
or, so I have to create a file called userDisplayCatmenuHook.php in the res directory and set the userDisplayCatmenuHook to true or something like that? |
| 23:39 |
just2b |
there is already a catmenu demo, there stants also in it how to use |
| 23:39 |
ndee |
just2b: does it start with example_ ? |
| 23:55 |
just2b |
ndee yes |
| 23:56 |
Phlogi_ |
vince2: turn off that please |
| 23:56 |
Phlogi_ |
just2b: aren't you tired? =) |
| 23:56 |
ndee |
just2b: I only have exampe_amenuUserFunc.php, exampe_imageMarkerFunc.php, example_itemMarkerArrayFunc.php and example_userPageBrowserFunc.php |
